Is "Fast Flips" a new feature that came with 10.6?

Kind of yes. There are a few tables that have this code "integrated" into the table scripts since this work was started pre 10.6 beta code was started. This is why there is beta periods. This code was put into core.vbs. A essential script for everyonesl VP installations. Anyone having the old core.vbs installed, eg. 10.5 official or older will have problems with tables that utilizes the new features. There is a reason why we tell people to update everything and making sure that old vbs files is not disturbing loading of the latest updated one ( not placed in tables or users folder ). If you know what you are doing, there are ways to keep scripts in other places than scripts folder. But, because the user base is large and the knowledge of computers varies a lot, it is really best for all that we tell everyone to keep ALL scripts in scripts folder only. core.vbs isn't updated often. It is run on almost every game out there. if something goes wrong with it, we should notice it pretty fast - because of its essential role. Again, why it is still a 10.6 component. But, then again. Now it was also been tested enough to at least prove that it is a recommended update.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Thanks for that great explanation!

Is there a list of tables that make use of "fast flips"?

I would check whether they show the same flipper staying upright problem on my two screen setup (as long as I do not disable this feature with the parameter that you provided).

Now I updated successfully to 10.6. Unfortunately that did not change anything: The flippers stay up, after you press their buttons for the first time in AFM.

Since you have 10.6 I wonder why you had a flipper problem & had to make "Const UseSolenoids = 1" to make the flippers work.

I’m certainly no expert but have read that some DB2S backglasses cause performance issues. IIRC you said you were using a 2 monitor setup. For the heck of it go to Preferences > Keys, Nudge & DOF and check the box that says Disable B2S and see if that makes any difference. Just a thought.

I'm running 10.6 and just test tables ("Const UseSolenoids = 2") and see if they work.  It works most of the time.

Disable B2S did not have any effect on the flippers staying up.

Only

"Const UseSolenoids = 1"

Does work with my setup.

Could it be that with a 60Hz Playfield you will not see a difference between fast and "slow" flippers anyway?

No, I run 60Hz on my 4k. And, it is more of a feeling then anything else. Press F11 and use left flipper button, you should get stats about the response time. Believe me, once you get fast flip to work, you know.

Thanks again for the info.

The values change permanently while I play:

What kind of values are we getting here:

"Left Flipper Keypress to rotate: 7.6ms (1f) to eos: 20ms (3f)"

Sometimes the values are smaller, but sometimes much larger?

I explained that already. Fluctuates up to 20ms. Fast Flips is steady - often under 1ms. 7.6 is slow.

sometimes I see values in the hundreds or thousands here, although the flippers react pretty fast.

The large values that show up, do not match to the behavior of the flippers in many situations.

Thats why I am asking what kind of values we are getting here.

Here's what mine looks like when I press F11 and press the left flipper button. The bottom row where it says "0.4 ms" is the FastFlips response time.

I see. And which duration is represented by the 13.8?

End Of Stroke - so, that is more of a setting for the table. If you look at the flipper' properties, they have various properties EOS if one of them.

Thanks for the help!

What does it mean "dont work"? What do you see or what is happening? If you want help, you should at least give some information about what the exact problem is.
