Don't Panic Guys. Every ROM of Gottlieb is still on Pinball Nirvana, but how long?

I would not recommend to mention these pages here ... the Gottlieb- undertakers can read as well.

The more Gottlieb wants to thighten their grip on the rom files, the more will slip through their fingers.

Just ask (on forums like this or Pinside or private email) and you will receive.....

Roms will always be available.

They can't stop private emails.

Gottlieb should be happy with VPForums and Pinmame/Vpinball.

That's the only way to save and test the files they neglected to save themself.

All the files we've collected over the years, just image the work involved is this....

Checking the real game, finding out the rom version, reading the eproms, testing in PinMame....

Long live Pinball....

Peter

Scan your instruction cards and send me the images.
I'll recreate them in a reproduction file for reprinting.

Very well put! It’s just sad that Gottlieb may give the impression of being greedy and whiling to squeeze money from rom hosting bearing their trademark on kind of abandoned-ware on their behalf. Real a shame.

True enough. I think many are supported in MAME so they are spread very far and very wide. It’s possible for a company to scrub some things from the Internet. Not MAME though.

Nintendo did a good job of scrubbing all of their roms from the internet.

Many of the rom sharing sites were completely shut down.

It is sad to see one of the founding pinball companies have this view towards their roms, but it is not a new view.

They have had this view for many years. (removal of all the Gottleb roms and manuals from IPDB comes to mind.)

What's to stop them from doing the same for the images?

Could you imagine having to remove every VP Gottlieb table ever made?

Erase all signs of Gottlieb from VP history and future?

This is a possibilty, and makes me very sad every time my paranoid mind thinks about it!!

I think they are only doing a disservice to themselves.

I am sure Williams has noticed an uptick in business because of VP!!

Alot of people buy real pinball cabinets because of this VP hobby!!

We are basically giving the pinball companies free advertising and name recognition, and are reaching an audience that they never had, and never would have.

Thousands of people get addicted to this hobby!!

We do all the work for free, and they have only benefited from this.

We don't make any money, or expect to make any money, while each person is contributing their little piece, or expertise in one of the many parts that when brought together, form a finished VP table in the end.

Like Inkochnito said above,

"Gottlieb should be happy with VPForums and Pinmame/Vpinball.

If not for the VP community,

and all the people who contribute many days, weeks, months, years, of hard work trying to preserve Pinball History,

Gottlieb would be in the dustbin of Pinball History.

Keep on Pinballin'

Carry on.

Right to repair laws will be needed to unlock the Gottleb roms and manuals pay wall. This what happens when you let Copyright trolls buy up old IP.

How are we doing them a favor by posting their roms ? I bet not many of us ever bought many TPA tables when we could get better, more authentic (gameplay wise) tables here for free. Its terrible there gone? Hell yeah, but as a fan that would have bought every version of TPA if MAME never existed, but never did, I get it. (confused much?)

The other issue with the paid ones is some have censorship. Why can't we just buy the roms?

Most of Gottlieb's tables are old classics. I would have ever known most of them had even existed if it was not for this hobby or this ,and some others sites.  Not everybody has $5,000 to drop on a real Pinball machine. I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind paying a small fee for them. To me this Archived the existence of all these classic machines. If they want it to all be dust in the wind than so be it. Where I live there is hardly any pinball in the entire South West state I live in. It's hard to find a real Pinball Machine Period...  Much less a classic Gottlieb. It was nice to see what I missed all these years. Well  :cray: I guess nothing lasts forever.

You can buy the EPROMS from The Pinball Resource, the licensed Gottlieb parts distributor, and dump them yourself. Probably NOS, too.
