What? It's not good enough to get the game code from the source?

http://www.planetary...0/software.html

Latest nucore versions are free to the public as well. But it is not open source.

I know what you mean in general though. Tough to have to pay somebody $$ for a bad photocopy of a 40 year old game manual or game code if you already have chips and a burner. But thems the breaks.

Just the updates not the full ones. (I think the full ones are in the main Mame rom set)

We were actually authorized by a Gottlieb license holder back in 2009, Nanotech Entertainment. For those of you who weren't around, here's an article about them licensing ... http://arcadeheroes....-entertainment/

Since then, their license has expired, obviously, and we were asked to remove them.

If you want to end the speculation, ask randr. He's the one that went on and on about them while I was explaining how permission works with TNA. It's quite easy to figure out what happened from there.

It's just a shame I didn't have time to reach out before he did.

The ROM images still have value to those that sell replacement ROM chips, and therefore, their rights have to be respected.

I wonder if invented tables like: Gremlins, Minions, Scarface, etc. .. Will they have the same problem? No I dont think so?. Luckily we still have Future Pinball, I know it is not the same but there you will find tables that were eliminated from Gottlieb.   Let's hope that all our work does not go to the ...¿?!@/*!@?**

And that is BS that John Deere and car manufacturers use to lock out 3rd party repair. So that is why we need Right to repair laws to make so that replacement parts / repair info are locked into an dealer only network.

noah:  Why don't you make a new deal then?  A DMCA takedown doesn't mean you are never able to make a new deal if an old one expired, yet by saying what you posted, its like "too late now".

I'm disappointed in what you posted but it's par for the course lately so not unexpected.  Frankly I'm more disappointed in the lack of reaction from members.  I'm hoping it's because members simply didn't read your accusation that Randr caused the DMCA takedown.  At any rate, you crossed a line here and I won't forget it.

This is a great community and these forums are fantastic.  But still sooo disappointed in a lot of people here.  That's ok, I'm sure many are now disappointed in me too.  Par for the course I guess.

Accusation my ass. It's reality. Either by or through, that's precisely what happened.

Like it or not, learn to live with it. It's the truth.

I'm done putting up with the bullshit accusations thrown at me, and I'm more than happy to expose the truth.

My intent was to reach out to them. "Someone" beat me to it.

Once more, you can still make a deal.  It's not like "oh too bad".  Money talks.

Out of curiosity, when did your old agreement expire?

It expired when Nanotech's expired, as we were under their 'umbrella', as it was said by them. Not sure when that was.

It is too late, if their ever was a chance at all. I had some ideas I wanted to suggest to them, but after takedowns, licensing in any way is much less likely.

That version of nanotech stopped operating, what, 8-9 years go? So it's possible and probable the agreement died when the company died. I'm not a lawyer, someone who is would have to chime in but some google searches seem to indicate legally, you were not authorized once the company went bye bye, that agreement was now null and void and at the very least whenever John Jukes licensed the Gottlieb assets. I mean can you imagine if Disney licenses their product to a toy line company for a 5 year contract and the company goes bankrupt after 1 year that they are then stuck for the next 4 years unable to license to someone else? I also hope that when nanotech allowed you to host the roms that you check if their own license allowed them to sub license because that's not automatic and not something to assume!

I have no problem if you or other sites were hosting roms illegally. This has been part of our hobby and the mame hobby. I think as a community we all share various opinions on this. I know the copyright owners have a very different opinion on this and that's ok. But You've stated time and time again when attacking other people that you were the only one licensed blah blah blah, but as we can see here, you were not always licensed. That is BS and that's what Randr was trying to tell you I think, knock off the BS sitting high On your horse because THAT is when you become a target, not necessarily from those you think. you put it all on Randr's shoulders because of timing, one could also find amazing coincidence that this happens within what, 12 hours of you handing the reins over to someone else??? I'd also state that although I support your product (there was a need and not everyone can build their own cab), there probably isn't a bigger target you can draw attention wise then commercializing part of the hobby. Again, I support it but pointing the finger without proof at Randr with virtuapin ads on the same page is ironic, dont you think? Legal as they may be it's still attention to a site that apparently hosted unlicensed roms for some time.

At any rate, it's wrong for you to blatantly accuse someone because you connect the dots as you do. Those are assumptions and you of all people should know what happens when you assume. That's dangerous, I mean we can connect dots as well and they certainly could do you a disfavour even if the connecting is wrong (people misinterpret all the time, there's a lot of Predators out there).

Don't assume unless you have facts man because in this instance you don't. Well assume if you want but don't complain when others fight back as you would too if you felt attacked. I'm no public defender lol but if I see contributors whether from vpf or elsewhere, whether if it's the vp/vpm devs teams, the talented authors, the tireless supporting members etc, I'll damn well defend those contributors and man, Randr is a contributor to this hobby.

This is really terrible news. It would be good if someone could talk to the guys that own the rights of gottlieb. I really hope that there is a opening and that they are reasonable. The gottlieb rom's here never did anyone any harm. It's a true disaster what happened.

Still, the roms are available elsewhere, I hope that this won't stop people to develop more awesome Gottlieb VPX tables.

Right here. The moment randr accuses you of something so severe like you did, I'd be all over him as well

Hey Rob,

In my case there are several reasons why i stoped posting here:

1. I know shit about what is going on behind the VPX scenes! So i better keep quiet.

2. All i wrote was ignored and ended with the words "Don't panic. Use google search for Gottlieb roms!" If people would have read my posts they should have seen that i was not talking about Gottlieb roms, i was talking about our hobby being in the licensing greyzone.

3. About being disapointed by the comunity:
Akiles! Who helped me and my modder friends out in that awful thread? Except Thalamus and Kalavera? Who helped roccodimarco? Nobody! Let's hope that acronovum was not using akiles artwork! As far as i have seen it, everybody likes acronovums work, including me! Would be a shame if he has to pull a few tables from the DL section. So it's not just you who is disapointed. To make one thing clear, whatever happend RandR, Noah, i love you both for what you are doing here for us! All i'm saying is, we can't loose your sites through legal actions from companies! Get along! We're all in the same boat.

4. My english is not good enough to make sure i get everything right! So i better keep quiet before i say something stupid!

It's all good rob, but there always two sides of the coin!

I just don't think we have the $50,000/year per romset to host the Gottlieb roms here.  So it's just easier to remove them and move on.

$50,000 a year per rom? Ouch!

I was really shocked when I saw what happend. With this disservice the successor- owner of Gottlieb are damaging the brand value again. The work that was done here with Gottlieb's heritage in the forum is keeping the history alive, and keeping the value. Since the missfortuned change from EM to SS the name Gottlieb is under a bad karma. This is another continualtion step of this dying. David Gottlieb would rotate in his grave.

Don't Panic Guys. Every ROM of Gottlieb is still on Pinball Nirvana, but how long?
