Thanks for the replies and I tried the instructions from the link provides above. Unfortunately I was not able to change the table to play with 3 balls instead of 5. I got into the menu, but navigating around once in there didn't seem to do what I intended.  No problem, I'll just enjoy playing with more balls.

Thanks to all involved, table looks and plays great.

One question, is it on purpose that the ball can roll through this gate in both directions?

speedtest_t.jpg

This is how I have seen in the videos.

Don't see a problem with supplying an alternative playfield. I however, is not going to change a Portuguese original Taito for a translated one. It is for me important to run the Brazilian Taito' looking and playing as close as possible to the original and of course the playfield is an essential part of it. If I started changing the playfield, I should really consider changing the backglass too. What a mess.

DarthMarino just gave us an alternative. Nothing wrong with that. Thank you, but no thanks :)

Sim, eu acharia estranho uma mesa em que joguei fisicamente em outra língua.

Disse em um outro post que lembro dos sons da mesa mesmo depois de uns 25 anos ou mais e acho que toda mesa de pinball deveria ser o mais original possível.

I started translating a few instruction cards of Spanish games (you can find them on The Other Site  ;))  into English. I know, some people here are arguing for keeping the tables as original as possible, a) these translations are meant as augmentation, not replacement, and b) I sadly don't speak Spanish but would still like to know what the hell I'm doing when I'm playing games like Jolly Park or Verne's World.

Since I also don't speak Portuguese, I started a translation of Speed Test's instruction card. I usually like to check if my translation is correct by using the Ball Control feature of the table's debugger.

So: Is it just me, or is the rules card for this game full of errors?

For example:

It says that the bonus multiplier is advanced by passing through the shortcut ("atalho"), i.e. the lane that opens up when you drop the three upper right targets.

In fact, the bonus multiplier seems to be advanced by hitting the four center targets.

It says that Start 2 ("largada 2") will light when dropping the right lane ("corredor direito") targets.

Those three targets are in front of the LEFT lane.

It says passing through Start 1 ("largada 1") will light all lights in the left lane.

OK, going by hints dropped in some other parts of the instruction, I gather that the yellow paved lane is supposed to be the LEFT lane "corredor esquardo"). So what does that make the lane that's actually to the left of the table (the one that starts with the bridge and the "marcha lenta" light)?

It says passing through Start 2 ("largada 2") will light all lights in the right lane.

There is only ONE light in the right (= wavy) lane, and it's not lit by passing through largada 2. What it does is light all the lights in the actual left (=bridge, marcha lenta) lane.

And so on.

Having looked through a handful of videos on YouTube, it seems (and how could it be otherwise?) that JP's implementation of the table is authentic, and that the instructions are, in fact, wrong.

Which brings me to the question: Has anyone written down the correct rules for this table?

(I'm a bit of a completist, and if I have a table without proper instructions on my cab, it feels naked somehow. I'd also love to create a proper instruction card for Rat Fink at one point, but unless I get Speed Test's rules sorted first, there's no point, as I would be working from unreliable data.)

I never tried to translate those instructions, so they could be wrong :) But those are the instructions on the apron card :)

Apologies if I gave the impression that the error originated with you - that's not what I meant. It's clearly the original card that's at fault here.

No problem :) I guess the person who made the card was not the same person who coded the rom :)

@sixoftwelve : I'm one of those purist ;) But, I think you're doing a great job never the less. In my mind, the perfect solution is, keep the table all on its own like the author made it (if he keeps it authentic), then use something like the 'R' key where the translated card will be magnified and show, like a few guys have implemented. Star Trek Stern comes to mind, but there are others too.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

I usually add the original card to my frontend (PinballX), and then add the translated card as "page 2".
