Hey everybody. Just a quick question, and if it doesn't belong here, I do apologize.
VP9 has been working great except for when I try to play a JP/Groni/or Scapino table. For some reason when it's preparing the table, I get an error message saying:

"Could not create offscreen surface" and sometimes it says "Could not create offscreen Z surface"

Has anyone else ever had this problem, or know what it means, and how to fix it?
I've ignored it before, and just played the VP8 versions of the games, but these recent releases (twilight zone and black knight and theater of magic) really make me want to get this working.

Thanks in advance!
Joe

i get this for almost all vp9 tables now. black knight won't run at all because it says that and crashes to my desktop. sad.gif
I even have to run the 'pass it on' table without hardware checked which means no visible flippers or plunger or if I check it then save it (exiting vp9 and reopening it all over again) it still crashes after that fateful 'cannot create offscreen z-surface' message. I think it has to do with either the number of objects or those playfield walls that are so popular now. the pass it on table uses them (height of 1 top, bottom 0) that screws with my computer something fierce. ah the fun of INTEL graphics.

Did you resize the backdrop image to 1024x768?

It's either that, or the image file was saved as 32 bit bmp. If you export the images, resave them as 24 bit bmp as that works for me with a lot of the newer releases.

Have you tried running it in VPman? On all of my computers I have to disable hardware acceleration. On 2 of them I have to disable direct draw in VPman or it won't have flippers (and other issues), and on the other two I need direct draw enabled or flippers won't show up. 3 are XP with onboard graphics, 1 vista with an nvidia. It took some trial and error, but I got it to run on all of them without issue other than the transparent ramps looking god-awful.

Hey JP... can you get the sounds out of my old Black Knight table? That has all correct sounds... including the very characteristic upper playfield gate sound... PE668 used them in his VP only version...!! I'd give them to you but I have no idea where those files are. This table should have the RING... definitely not the knocker...using the knocker in this table is like painting Ferrari in British Racing Green...!! biggrin.gif

The real table also used GI... the plastics went black every time you got a multiball... it wasn't implemented on my table because I used decals for the plastics and never had time and energy to redo them.

Another request... is there a chance to include a standard backglass image for this table... as good as your gameroom backdrop looks I'm not very fond of them...!!

Thanks JP...!!

Updated the table to version 1.1

I have merged the changes from the alternate version (backdrop scoring lights, the Black Knight backdrop and the bell sound) with the regular version.
(the alternative version can be deleted now smile.gif )

New in this 1.1
- gameplay adjustments by kristian, making the table a little more difficult and chalenging
- added Gi (it only turns off during the attract mode and multiplay)
- added new angle independent rails, making the table now completely angle independent.

Take a look at the table info for a few tips about changing angles.

Just little note about the "new" rails. They are made now with ramps, so "new" they aren't, since most of the rails in VP have been done with rails. What it kept me from adding them was that when those rails where as high as the table, as they should be, then VP8 redered the table very small to fit those rails. But in VP9 you can control the X and Y scale, and this is what I have done smile.gif. Now with the rails being part of the table, teh table become completely angle independent and you may change the backdrop to whatever you want, and you may also change the view to whatever you want too. So if you like better a top view then just change the angle in the backdrop settings to a 45/43 angle. If you have a 16:9 or 16:10 LCD screen, then just reduce the X scale for about 25%. For example if the X scale setting is 1,25 then just change it to 1, or if it was 1 then change it to 0,8 for example). This will make the proportions right again and the ball will be a circle again.

For an FS view you will need to delete those rails (and the top DMD one), since they will only get in the middle.

I'm going to update all my VP9 tables with these rails and new backdrops. But first I want to finish Rollercoaster Tycoon (well, "finish" smile.gif I just got started with it, and I don't have anything to show yet smile.gif)

The only new objects added to the table are the rails and the GI lights (many lights and dropwalls).

First try to set the X scale and Y Scale both to 1, and see if the error comes up.

If you still hace the error then remove the rails and the top bar.

Let's see if any of this works.

The top bar is the one at the top of the table, a very thin one, which it has the DMD image. It is a high ramp, so maybe this is the one causing the problem.

I'm sot sure that this will be the one causing the problem, another reason could be the graphic card having too little memory or don't like a big bmp. There are two big bmp files in the table plastics.bmp and plastics_on.bmp. Extract them, convert them to jpg and load them again. Save the table, quit VP, and run it again. You'll miss the transparency on the plastics, it will apprear a thin green border, but that may be the cause.

Another thing you can try is to delete the other backdrop which is not used, it will save some graphic memory.

I test first the Cavaleiro Negro pinball and have same error.

I donīt know not enough grafik memory.

Other tables have many many more pictures in the table and i have no error problem think.gif

Ever since JP updated this table to v1.1, I've been getting the "could not create of screen Z-surface" error. I've never had the "Z-surface" error with any VP9 table ever with Hardware Graphic Rendering enabled. Does anyone know what could be causing this with just this table? By the way, my graphics card is fully capable of running every other VP9 table with Hardware Graphic Rendering enabled at full speed. Thanks in advance. MIKE

JP, when i run BK and Cavaleiro negro in VP 9... runs fine...

But running in hyperpin give me an extra VP9 edit opening screen on top the playfiled screen.. then nothings happens... only the VP9 opening screen showing..

Only happens under the Hyperpin frontend...

Any ideas what could be this??
