You can download the table 'updates' on their website - they're using vp9.

Did anybody else notice how harsh Pinball News was to VP in that article?

"The game play was rather poor and the table very flat-looking, with the software seemingly programmed by someone unfamiliar with the pinball basics, ..."

"Although the ball physics were a long way from realistic, ..."

I know, I know - the tide of the conversation is "screw these thieves!" but that haterade from PN was a bit rough.

Maybe a little harsh but I think I can see why they say those things, & remember this is written by a guy who does nothing but play real pinball all the time, so of course VP is gonna feel a bit off to him. I also feel that FS tables in cabs look flat, I can't get my eyes/brain to trick me into thinking I'm looking at anything but 2D. But I play real pins everyday so maybe its a bit tougher for me. I'm not the only one who feels this way, which is why the whole cab thing just doesn't work for some people.

I wouldn't say ball physics are a "long way" from realistic, but they certainly could be better. There are some very basic pinball tricks that can't be properly done in VP. Maybe the reviewer is just comparing to real pinball, to which VP can never really be on par with. But if the reviewer were familiar with virtual pinball & doing a review on that, maybe he would say that VP's physics are pretty good for a sim. Yeah, when pitting VP against the real thing, it is hard to compare. & those guys are in the business of real pinball, so they probably have a tough time getting into anything but the real thing, which I understand. These are the reasons why I'm gonna keep buying & playing real pinball & likely why I'll never have a cab. I still like VP on my desktop, playing desktop versions of tables which I think look best, though I just don't treat VP as a real pin substitute. It's fun for what it is though, & does pretty well for being free.

Isn't it possible they made changes to it that affected the physics, or maybe they are running VP8?

Sounds like from a post in another thread about this that they use underpowered hardware that lags. That'd definitely affect it.

JP,

I can see why you might be upset, but I don't think you should stop making tables because of it.

Did you honestly think someone with your talent wouldn't eventually get mimicked? Come on...

Musicians(like myself) get "ripped off" all the time... but you can change it into flattery! Flattery because someone thought your work was good enough to mimic.

Yes, I understand that you do it for free... so it would bug you that someone is making money from things you did...but we all do that in some way... I mean, I would never have learned guitar and piano etc...without mimicking someone else- and I make money from it!! No, not necessarily from their songs, true.... but I get compared to some famous artists, so I must have borrowed something, a lick here or there maybe?

You can't stop people from capitalizing on your work...you should never have been naive to think that... someone else will do it again in the future...are we going to see you do this every time?? Do you see my point??

Seriously, don't stop because of these guys..PLEASE!!! If you need to knock them over the head, fine.. but keep making tables..Do both!

We need you here!!

Maceman

I come across this video on Youtube of a Virtual pinball cabinet that looks like it is running software which isn't VP or FP. Anyone know anything about it?

Yeah, but it's the insult as much as anything else. It wouldn't be so bad if even an ounce of visible creative thought had gone into this thing, but geez, 'Super Hero'? It makes JP look bad insinuating he'd put his stamp on something so utterly bland and generic.

Yeah, like I said somewhere else: Getting just ripped off without modification isn't as bad as getting ripped off with bad modifications. Why take time and effort to make something good bad?

Well, at least they have a very buggy script in the "Super Hero" table smile.gif It was not the meaning to make a perfect script in my Spider-Man table. I just wanted to try to make a script with similar rules to the one on the Stern table, just to see if I could write such a script. So I wrote mostly the table and the script to see if I could make a script where there were battles going on at the same time, some timed missions and some random missions, multiballs, different multiballs. And it was a success. But I did wrote something wrong since it looses count of the balls on the table. Surely it is easy to fix if I go through the script, but it did what I wanted and that was good enough for me. But was it ready to be sold? No way, too buggy for that. So I hope they get many bad reviews for putting a table full of bugs smile.gif
