Outline of "which" DMD? DMDExt?

Is your intention to "not" use DMDExt with a PinEvent table (depending on your layout, you may not want to if using PUPDMD from the pup-pack).

If so then you need to setup your front-end so that it doesn't run DMDExt at all when launching PinEvent tables.

This link here gives you tips on how to do so with Popper to give you ideas:

I got Future Pinball all setup, tables inportrd into popper and all they load. But I haven’t gotten one to display the DMD with freezy 1.9. It launches and closes with the tables and I click and drag it, but it’s just a black screen. Any ideas?

I also run Flex DMD. It made me have the 32 and 64 bit versions of Freezy in the VPMame folder. I dont think Ive run a Future Pinball table since then. Of course I only use the Pin Event tables so I guess its not a factor for me. Love those tables. Cant wait for more.

It will nag you, but it will still register without the 64bit, or should
if it is not, report it on flexDMD github as a bug

The FP support is neat for tables like terry's Aliens table etc
You get to have a real DMD display

This post is specifically addressing FP support. Both FP and FX3 need the 32 bit version of dmdext.exe, and VPinMAME requires the 32 bit version of dmddevice.dll.

PinEvent doesn't need dmdext "today".... BUT... in the future, if you are a real DMD or LCD (4:1) user... then you may need DMDext to display the FP DMD on those.

For the future update for PinEvent 1.5, I will be dropping real dmd and lcd dmd support for PinEvent altogether. I will only be using FullDMD and FullDMD on BG as that is what I design the table and pupdmd updates for. By using dmdext for real and LCD DMD (for the FP DMD), you get the best of both worlds for those with that setup.... and it will make PinEvent options MUCH simpler and easier to understand.

PinballX holdout here trying to switch to this from FutureDMD.

Can anyone tell me what to put in the Launch Before Executable box and the Launch Before Parameter box? Don't want to mess anything up.

Thanks in advance..

Not sure if this helps any, but here is what i have in my startDMD bat, which is in my main FP folder

with freezy's for FP being in a sub folder of that named dmdext

cd dmdext
start /min ""  "dmdext.exe" mirror --source=futurepinball -q --virtual-stay-on-top --fps 60 --use-ini="C:\emulation\Future Pinball\dmdext\DmdDevice.ini"

You could use the same INI i guess

but i prefer to keep the FP setup entirely separate from the VP setup

so separate folder, files, ini etc

in my fp\dmdext folder i have

dmdext.exe

dmddevice.ini

dmdext.log.config.

in my vpx\vpinmame folder i have

DMDDevice.dll
DMDDevice.ini

dmddevice.log.config

Adjusted that with my correct paths and not seeing anything.

Wondering is there a way to launch this manually before I load a table just to see if it's working correctly first? Like I could with FutureDMD.

Double-clicking the dmdext.exe doesn't seem to launch anything.

I guess I could try moving it to the FP folder like you have it.

Thanks

Did you make a bat file, with the commands i showed?
edited for your paths of course.

Just run the bat file then

Result should be this

QMJ6vgf.png

Keep in mind, the table in question must have an actual DMD for anything wonderful to happen
Not a virtual DMD, which a lot of tables do use (Called HUD DMD)

If a table has a HUD DMD instead, one easy thing to do is copy it's name, then delete it from the translite
then add a DMD and give it the same name

And then you want to position it out of the translite view area
i usually stick them up top, outside the translite boundaries

Thanks yes I have all my tables tweaked that way already as I was running FutureDMD.

Sorry I totally missed the fact that there was a bat file involved.

Think I've done that in the past but not sure I recall what's involved.

Do I put what you wrote into a text file (with my proper paths) save it as a bat file and double-click it?

Thanks

Yes, just open notepad

Paste that in

Edit pathing as required

click file and save as
pick ALL FILES(*.*) as the file type
And name it DMD.bat or what not

All PinDMD, PinDMD2, PinDMD3 owners.... please let me know if the commands above work for you. I don't have any of those.

Gents anyone get this working with a Pixelcade for a DMD? I tried the command line entering Pixelcade in place of PinDMD but it did not work in Future Pinball, It does work in Visuall PinballX. Thanks for any help I can get

On some tables like Robocop, the background image looks corrupted on DMDExt

This is because the graphics used for the background image in the table file are full colour at 512 x 128 resolution

the OpenGL.DLL replacement uses a fairly simple colour averaging routine to shrink these to DMD size (128 x 32), I expect you would get better results by using a decent graphics package to shrink the textures down to this size and place them into the table instead.

they *may* look better in colour, not tried this table yet!

I've had no luck getting dmdext to run with fp. Everything is set in popper, correct paths and latest versions.

Looking for some things I can check to see what is wrong.
