There is now a linux version (misc: standalone builds for macos, ios, tvos, android, linux, and rpi) that runs a lot of tables really well!  I keep all my tables zip'd so was running ziprofs.py to mount the folder so I could access all the zip's as folders.  But for some reason thats not working very well any more and even when I use VPX under wine.  So I wrote a script that lets me use ziprofs to select a table from a zip then I extract it and launch VPinballX_GL to play.

See https://github.com/v...ws/vpinball.yml to get the latest dev versions.

Steps to make it work:

DL the linux version, extracted to my pinball folder,  added the pinmame path to ~.vpinball/VPinballX.ini for it to find the roms and other files

launch VPinballX_GL supplying the table name and it runs!  If not you can get an idea why.

I can provide the script I wrote that uses Zenity for a file selector and lets you keep playing games until  you cancel if anyone is interested.

Do you guys think it is possible to port this for the Quest 3 OS (which is based on android)?

Do you guys think it is possible to port this for the Quest 3 OS (which is based on android)?

The Android apk on the Visual Pinball Github page already runs on Quest 2 and it plays quite well in a 2D window (I haven't tested Quest 3 but assume it also works). It's not proper VR though, maybe one day it will be ported for true standalone VR.

It is a bit clunky with regards to loading up the tables but does work. They seem to have changed the Quest OS in the last few months in a negative way that no longer allows you to resize the Android app window, previously I was able to make the window larger but cant seem to do that any more.

You can use sidequest to install the apk. Once installed and running, the app sets up a server on the Quest which you can access via a webpage on your PC, you then transfer the table and rom files via the server. I think the FSS tables work so that you can have the backglass visible as well. Check out fss-pinball.com to get some tables.

Yeah, I agree. It think the Quest is more than capable given how well Pinball FX 2 VR and the Starwars Pinball tables run on it, although optimising VPX for quest might be the issue.

Would probably need to get a developer onboard that is already working with Quest VR and has an interest in porting it. There's a guy that makes a very cool mame arcade VR app called Age of Joy, a developer like that could be great to have onboard.

They do amazing ports (incredible how they look and sometimes run better than most Quest apps). Perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge than me should put the proposal to them though (JSM maybe??)

Whoever takes the project on probably needs to be a team/person who has a strong interest in pinball.

You did an awesome job @jsm174 !! Thank you very much! You think you could get in touch with Team Beef to figure out, if a Quest 3 VR port is possible and if these guys are willing to help?
