Rawd: Amazing stuff indeed wink.gif

Gravy: My real Gorgar has some custom electrical wiring under the playfield (made by the previous owner), so it plays without inserting coins (freeplay if you will wink.gif ) , I don't know
if that is the reason for it not working anymore, it started being less and less reliable, in the end it just "hums" when I turn it on, and starts to smell like smoke, something is fried/getting fried.

So I turn it off after a minute or so.

I have thought of a replacement board, but I dont know if it's the wiring and electronics under the playfield or the stuff inside the backbox, that needs to be changed,

and I did a simple replacement of the batteries, that didn't help.

I have read a lot of do-it-yourself guides to repair a Williams Gorgar, but it's just too time consuming for me.

There's a couple of good firms that restore pinballs back to their original glory, but again it's too expensive, and Im not that happy about sending my Gorgar to someone else, not knowing if I'll get it back
(a little paranoid about not getting it back, though Im sure the restoration firm can be trusted...)

Regards

boardmaker

I'd certainly be looking into the problem further, you might find that if you post a message on a new thread that you get some good answers to the issue. Is the humming coming from the speakers or other area?

Is it coming from the coin mech area?

Send a message to Greywolf on here, he could give some good tips I think.

UW,
just trying to help smooth out.
you want comments to make it better.

thanks for all you time and work.
your tables are bright and beauitiful.
play well.
the flippers have some problems.
they are not even in strength with the same settings.
sometimes rubber bumpers are flat.

EX'
Gorgar.
had some flat bumpers.
this table has 2 L/R flippers.
Lflipper and Lflipper on.
Rflipper and Rflipperon in the objects sub menu at the top left of the script window.

L/R default flippers was:
speed 0.275
strength 1
plaw 1
OB 6.5

changed it to;
LF
speed 0.2825 - 0.285
strength 1
plaw 1
OB 1

RFlip
same.
changed speed to 0.255 - 0.26

seem to work better and more even.

Firepower had some trouble with the flips.

You can set the slippers however you like to suit your personal.preference.
I release them with the settings i prefer or the ones that Im told match the real table

flippers should not be lazy or too strong.
they should have the power/strength to jet through spinners to the top.
on Gorgar the flippers settings were the same.
the RF was too strong.
the LF was too weak.
did not have the power/strength to get through the spinner proper to the top.

I can make every shot on the table the way i had them set.
Im not trying to debate this with you.
Everyone thinks there settings are the best. That is why the table is unlocked so you can set them how you feel is correct.

But when you try to push your settings on everyone and tell them their preference is wrong because it doesn't match what you prefer it is very disheartening.

Feelfree to start making your own recreation so we can all have tables set up the right way.

not tryin to push anyhting.
the flippers had a problem out of the DL.
did not work for me.
flippers are too weak or too strong.

for awhile i have suspected there might be problem with my PC.
sometimes it plays ok .
come back to it later it plays slow or not playing the same.
might make some changes to flippers.
on some tables strength is 5 and swing in the 0.065-0.075 range.
dropped strength down as low as 1.25 to get the desired performance.

is there a multiplier in the editor or program somewhere that is getting turned on somehow?
could it be my PC or the GFX card?

all authors

just trying to help.
no computer program is perfect.
you have a great program.
there are still a few bugs.

flippers need attention.
on firepower i cannot get the ball in the upper kicker cup.
increasing the strength and speed did not help.
sometimes flipper stength and speed top out and will not go any faster to get the ball in the upper kicker cup.
sometimes have bad lag at the end.

on Gorgar the flippers are uneven with the same settings.

most of your tables seem to be ok.
some of your tables and the other authors tables have flipper lag at the end of the flippers.
difficult to jet the ball up the side alleys to the top or get a shot at targets.
raising strength, speed and oblique might help some.
oth, the flippers are now launching the ball more towards the center.
flippers might have bad lag when i let it roll to the end of the flippers to get a shot at the side alleys or side targets.

not always, sometimes pop bumpers perform strange.
when the ball bumps into a pop it will kick the ball easy.
sometimes when the ball starts getting kicked around in the pops it goes wild.
default of 8 was sometimes too much.
the ball will get kicked around wild.

I've loaded this game, and went back to get the backglass working, and I followed the steps on how to get scoring into the backglass etc., and now when I got to play it the backglass goes away when the game is loaded. I've not had this trouble with any other game. I had the scoring in the DMD area at first, and feel I may have to go back to that, as when I remove the section to have the scoring go to the backglass the backglass stays, and the scoring is in the DMD area.

Asked questions in the forum on this and another that I was having a few problems with and I was told with Gorgar issue it was probably just not having the script edits correct. So, I took the scripts from another game that works perfectly in the backglass into a notepad and copied and pasted into Gorgar and still had the same issues. Also, tried deleting the table and reloading it, and nothing....it plays with the scoring in the DMD area with the backglass showing, however trying to edit the script with the scoring on the backglass the backglass disappears when starting the game. Any suggestions? I would love to be able to play the game as it should be played. Thanks.

@dgrein:

To get scoring working on the BG,

1) you need the UVP for Gorgar
2) change the controller in the script to UVP:
CODE
'Set Controller = CreateObject("VPinMAME.Controller")
Set Controller = CreateObject("UltraVP.BackglassServ")

3) add leds sub at end of script
CODE
Sub Leds_Timer()
    Dim ChgLED
    ChgLED = Controller.ChangedLEDs(&Hffffffff, &Hffffffff)
End Sub

4) add a timer to the table, called "Leds" and set to 50
5) make sure all the right filenames are in your hyperpin database
6) you can hide the DMD by changing .hidden = 0 to .hidden = 1 in the script

I've done all of the above, and with that when I go to play the game, the backglass disappears. This is the only game I'm having that problem with, have done the above on all of the NON DMD games and they work fine (with the exception of a few others). However Gorgar is the only one where when you go to play the game the backglass disappears.

Check the names of the .UVP and the .PNG file for the backglass to make sure they match exactly what is in your Hyperpin database.

Think I have now found the problem (I was having another issue with Barracora - and I was told to upload the UVP files for that - as they may have been upgraded - as this machine wasn't putting the scoring in the correct places). I went to the hyperpin/UVP folder and there is no files in there for Gorgar (and since I was testing the issues with Barracora and removed the original .png anf .uvp files to the recycle bin and was trying to use the new ones, the backglass disappeared upon play). Gorgar Media pack doesn't have any files in the hyperpin/ultra vp folder that's my problem with why the backglass keeps disappearing upon play. It appears then I will need to not play it with an active backglass and go back to having the scoring in the DMD area and not on the backglass where it should be.

Thanks everyone for the help with the working backglass. It now works and doesn't disappear. The problem was there were no UVP files in the original media pack, I downloaded the .uvp and .png files and placed them in the hyperpin database; and changed the names to Gorgar (Williams 1979) since that is what the table etc. is named and it worked now we have a functioning backglass.
