Here is the problem reported so far:

"We haven't officially released yet. We're still working out a worldwide currency issue with Steam. If you had Beta access and were able to get the latest version, I would ask that you don't purchase anything until we've sorted this all out.

Valve was supposed to lock out the beta keys until after release, but it sounds like that may not have happened. "

when asked about a release today

"Not sure yet, working like mad to get this resolved. Will have some news shortly."

Just to recap the state of Pinball Arcade on the PC and to help a few who have asked questions of which answers are known.

- On some video cards, the "post processing" option doesn't work right, it comes up very low res. IF that's the case, turn it off, IMHO it looks better anyway and that allows your card's ability to sharpen everything up good (the post processing issue is that it adds nice light source effects, but at the cost of sharpness). So when its released, try it with post processing on. If it looks jaggy, turn it off :)

- No portrait mode that I'm aware of but hopefully coming soon. Portrait mode on the pc with their multi format code is not as easy to do as you think,

- For the last little while, they have focused on some game breaking bugs and some aesthetics bugs. Some are still in there but hopefully nothing game breaking. Seems to work fine for me though some tables have issues.

- FYI, the above is true on other platforms as well, Pinball Arcade is NOT a bug free game but IMHO it still does a great job. No excuse but reality is Farsight is a small team who've spread their attention on what some feel are too many platforms but... they have to pay the bills

- Cabinet support is coming soon but its not been decided yet if it will be a different release. Because of this, if you have a cabinet and want to use Pinball arcade on it, then I recommend you HOLD OFF ON BUYING IT until Farsight has cleared up how they will implement cabinet support. This is my opinion and should not be misconstrued as negative towards Farsight, except maybe I hope they communicate their intention sooner rather than later.

- This needs Steam, we need to deal with it as a DRM release has been imposed on Farsight by the Licensees. IE: its not their fault they had to use something supporting the evil DLC, but if they have to use it, might as well be the most popular distribution model out there for the PC, one that can lead to most sales.

- Steam has an offline mode but it does mean you NEED to first be connected to install the app and tables so if your cab does not connect to the net at all, not sure how you can install Pinball Arcade. Might be possible though, but I doubt it.

- I have no idea if you need to reconnect every now and then to the net/steam service for Pinball Arcade to work. If it does, this may be a limitation to Steam, Pinball Arcade, both or neither. ;)

- If your intention is to buy all the tables, I highly recommend you buy the season packs as you get the best bang for your buck. There is a steam "announcement" thread in www.pinballarcadefans.com that shows the pricing.

- VERY MUCH IMHO, you don't get great value for the "PRO" version so keep that in mind, google the pros' and cons' to decide if its worth it for you. What constitutes value is a very personal thing.

- In saying that, when I buy it, I will buy the PRO version season passes just to support Farsight. I want them to put out more tables, pay their bills and have a couple of adult beverages to celebrate finally releasing this on pc. My pleasure Farsight!

- Steam wallet NEEDS to be used to buy the tables. No idea why but at the end of the day, it's not that different from using your credit card (you just transfer the money to the steam wallet first I guess)

- There are still some bugs but IMHO, everything is pretty useable and again IMHO, even without Post Processing, it looks pretty good and worth it.

I have bought every one of their tables on iOS and love their app but for me, I've decided to pass temporarily on purchasing off Steam if only until they announce how they will release the pincab version. IE: don't mind buying every table twice, but not three times man! Once they announce it, I will gladly fork out the money. Pinball Arcade on my retina ipad is a beauty to behold, works well, has a superior physics engine and I get to play many fav pins on the go. Ironically, playing Pinball Arcade on my pincab will look worse, but that's a limitation of my playfield monitor which maxes out at 1080p on a 42" screen, versus a higher resolution on the 10" tablet. That's ok, playing on a cab (eventually) will more than make up for that

Hope this answers some of your questions...

Rob

To change number of balls from 3 to 5.  Do you know if that be done with standard table or only with Pro table?

I have been one to shy away from season passes because they are usually a big ripoff. But if the Pinball Arcade has worthwhile features or packages that come with buying the season pass, then I am in. :D

I could have been smart, but I never learned anything by being smart!

Well, for future passes, its always a chance but for the first two, you save cash compared to buying the table packs individually.

Yea I'm really looking forward to this but I will hold off untill some kind of cab release. I already have this on the tablet and just can't play pinball at a desk when I have a pincab. Plus pc won't get an hd dx11 update till next year.. lets see what happens

A bit of question for those Wise Guys out there : does TPA have some form of online leaderboards, and if yes, are those any good ? (i.e : tournament format ranking and such).

As far as I'm concerned, i wont buy this as long as it does not have at least some form of portrait mode. Let's say  I am a bit suspicious when a dev company throws something like 'not at launch, but later on'. Looking at how they manage to hear their deadlines whooshing by consistantly this kind of worries me... Plus Steam sales might not provide enough juice in the bank to fully finance a proper cab support in the end. Don't misunderstand : I wish them the maximum success with their PC software, just that it doesnt look to me PC user are today soooo eager to play pinball (they just seem to prefer blowing up goblins to pieces with machine guns, go figure). But let's see and hope sales figures show me how I'm dead wrong !

Anyway, I just hope Farsight's product proves to be as good as their project management skills proved to be awful...

PinballFX2 didn't launch with portrait support either. I'm sure it's on its way, just need to be patient.

What worries me is the possibility of a separate cab version. Farsight needs to be clear about this.

I'm another who won't be buying anything on PC that doesn't have some cab support (at least portrait). I don't mind if it's extra like the existing Pro upgrades, but just let us know!

Credit card is ready...just need an answer. Oh, and the launch of course ;)

Pinball FX2 sure did launch with portrait mode builtin. It was minimal but it was there, and it fitted my bill at the time... What they added after was some 'improvements' for cab users who doesnt use the builtin windows driver screen rotation (which in turn is surely the most awful and limiting feature of Visual Pinball, having to display the playfield screen sideways... Hopefully it'll get rid of that at some point)

Anyway, I'm eagerly waiting to see what's going to happen with TPA (the potential distinct cab build thing doesnt ring right to my ears and kind of worries me), looking forward to throw my money at Farsight when they get their shit sorted out along with some simple screen rotation routines...

Wait, where is it? Why haven't they released it?!

It will be released this week. They had an issue with being able to accept payments from the multiple countries and different currencies. Or something along those lines. Look for it this week.

That's not actually confirmed yet. Mike said that Valve hopes to have it out in a few hours. "Hopes" is the key word :)

No. No portrait mode and definitely no fullscreen cabinet mode. Only widescreen desktop for now.
