Numiah, are you saying your score is working on the backglass in FP with the newer drivers in windows 7 64 bit??????

Check again please.

I did, and everything is working. Score of EM wheels, Starburst LED's, 8 digit LEDS and DMD. They all work.
Mind you I am on XP in my cab.

Well, That is INTERESTING!!!

This tells me that there is something in Windows 7 that is hindering the drivers from working. I would think compatibility mode would've/should've take care of that, but hence, we have proof otherwise!!

Very Interesting indeed....

Thanx,

Click a new table. That one. I don't know why it does that. Only thing I can think of is the table is trying to hide those drains. Layer issue maybe?

k, my drainer hole looks completely there while using WinXP.
However, I tested it on my Win7 box (270.61), and the drainer looks as in your picture.

So Win7 is the culprit imho.

As of today I'm running my cab with the 270.61
All works well, even FP !

I gained a lot of performance in VP compared to 268.xx
I had a few doubtfull tables, CV, X-Files and the new totan.
All stutter issues are gone for me.

This time I'm sticking to newer drivers.

I'm using the new 270 drivers and FP does not do the backglass properly in HP. What did you do to get it working correctly?
I am still working out issues with stutter in VP as well, but they seem to go away after a few minutes of play...

QUOTE (maceman @ Apr 22 2011, 09:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
That may be true..... Although the goal is obviously to emulate real pinball as much as possible, it will always be digital pinball and we shouldn't forget that....
I can say for certain that I have a minimum of 20 FP tables that play like real pinball with the changes I made. I would say on an equal comparison, that about the same could be said about VP, although lately, I think it may be lower on my machine.

You may be comparing game to game?? I am including OG tables, some of which run better than the ones trying to emulate a manufactured table. There are also some others in the work that have excellent physics. Rawd's new TH table, if you watch that one is smooth as silk but I don't know what he tweaks to get it smooth like that. So, I can't always compare to real tables if they are sometimes OG's....

Just as a side note.... I think the FP version of Black Night plays closer to the original than VP. I played that game 1 million times for sure growing up, and the FP version i have on my table is almost perfect- more like 70-75% I would say, but even so, I think i like JP's version better..so to me it isn't always exactness, but the fun factor!!

Mark1's The Wall on FP is smooth as well, but i modified that one for cab.

Maceman

I think some people get a little too wrapped up in the "real" pinball feel. I think some of the FP tables are just plain fun to play, regardless of physics. It has some very good original tables. VP is more for the real table emulation.

Could be the Windows 7 version that I have is screwing up the VP video support then. I'm glad it doesn't do that on your Windows XP. I tried to install Windows XP but Gateway won't let me install it because I have Windows 7 install already.

I do have the Ubuntu install but there is no VP for Linux at this time. Funny thing is I can't get VP to work on Wine because it refuse to run it. I no longer use Wine because so many bugs and problems with it. I don't like Wine anyway.

Actually I didn't do much. It just worked instantly.

I read down further and see you are using XP. Sounds like that might be the difference

It has been known and documented that the FP backglass issue only effects Windows 7. Nothing new with that. So far to date the FP backglass only shows up active on Windows 7 using Nvidia drivers 260.99. You can use the newest Nvidia drivers with Windows XP.
Having a cabinet to play full screen pins is awesome! Check out my mini pin cab here on VPForums.

^^Thanx Blitz!,

This is my fault for not getting people to list their OS when replying. I think it is mandatory now that when we make statements of this working or not, we should ALWAYS list our OS's, so we are on the same page. Lesson Learned!!

So guys, let's not assume we are in the kow of each others OS all the time and let's try to remember to list it when making statements so our efforts are unified in solving this for everyone!!

@Mitchell, thanx for your observations. Mitchell, Is it possible to run an XP shell in Ubuntu? I know there are many ways in Linux, but Iam not familiar with Ubuntu. The reason I ask, is it may be interesting...if you are willing...to source it out and try itand see if it works with XP.

@Blitz- I've been wondering where you've been in all this... Probably frunstrated no doubt of watching us all repeated old findings. smile.gif Have you(with the 260.99like me) noticed that fps chokeage at all, or is your fps in VP okay(without needing sound recorder open i mean). What sound set-up are you using out of curiousity??

I have been busy with work and my sons little league football team that I coach. I got tired of fighting Windows 7 on my cab and found a copy of TinyXP. I am very glad I did. The reduction in OS install size was dramatic. I only had about 1G left on my 30G SSD and with TinyXP I have 16G free after installing all of the same tables! Best part is my cab performs insanely better! I just tried to overclock my CPU and GPU and both seem stable with it but it has only been 1 day. Previously with Windows 7 I could not get a stable CPU overclock. One interesting thing is that I was using PriFinitty to set my apps to certain cores. I noticed my DMD sound started to be out of time meaning it would speed up and slow down. Along with that came reduced cab performance. I tracked the issue down to PriFinitty. I tried SetAffinity and got the same results. I completely removed any programs that control core assignment and that made a huge improvement on my cab. That goes against most advice but I am to the point that my cab is now running great so I am not going to question it too much past that. heh Of course since I am not on XP I can use the newest nvidia drivers with FP. Everything runs great.

Out of curiosity, for those of you running Windows XP AND Future Pinball, do the latest drivers allow you to use reflections or are there still artifact problems with those as well?

If you like tinyxp you should get microxp, made but the same author and I think the install size is less than 250meg I have the figure of 100meg install size in my head but that can't be right

EDIT: Maceman loving your new avitar by the way, hopefully playerone and UW will make this table soon

Thanx guys! Yes, the new avatar- I'm liking it too!

I really think i want to go XP as well. I have a couple licenses. I considered this last week, as a dual-boot, but them chickened out after reading all the steps, and then all the issues.

I really cannot just install XP at this time. I just have toomuch iwould have to rebuild.

I may try the dual boot still as i think it is worth it running XP for this!!

Thanx for the input!

Maceman

ps. where does one get this tinyxp or whatever? Inever heard of it . I wonder if it can go dualboot with an win 7 64 bit already installed first?

With 270.61 there aren't ANY problems with FP. Well.... at least in my case.
Only one VP table is artifacting on one right bottom flasher and that is Radical.
