File Name: 4 Aces (Williams 1970)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 12 Aug 2023

File Category: VPX Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Halen
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1970
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the table by Williams from 1970.

Graphics and DB2S by Halen.

Rules explained in the apron card (or press R for a bigger view)

Since the table is quite hard I have added a small change: when you score a card, by loosing the ball though one of the inlanes when the light on top is lit, then you get the ball back :)

The rest of the rules are, I hope, just like the real game, like the cards position is kept from game to game, and the players being able to steal the other players bonus :)

Enjoy!
JP

Dear Juan Pablo,

thank you for this sweet EM- fun! Please adjust the script in order to move the flipper- caps. Or is this a consequence of not using 10.8.? (I use up to date 10.7). If so please tell us where we can find 10.8 and which elements (scipt, *.dll etc?) of the installation are to be replaced.

Thank you again, Christian.

Download the VPX8 beta 5 from here:

Releases · vpinball/vpinball (github.com)

I guess you need only the one called VPinballX-10.8.0-1347-3d585e7-Release-win-x86.zip

You may want to rename your current VPX to VPX7, and replace everything! Scripts and dlls included. I'm not sure if they have been changed since the latest VPX7, but it is a good practice to update everything.

It looks like there is something wrong with the Highscore entry routine. I'm looking into it.

UPDATE

1.0.1 Updated same day
- fixed Highscore entry not working

I had added a delay before activating the game over, and that made the check for the highscore believe that the game was not over yet so it didn't do anything.
Things that happen when you try to do last minute fixes :D

It worked just fine for me before.

One does not have these issues, when one never has a high score anyways ;)

For some reason the B2S won't come up.   2-screen DT user, I can see the B2S sever window open in the taskbar, then after a few seconds it exits completely without running the B2S.

I even tried to double-click on the B2S to bring it up manually, but it doesn't even do that.

Using VPX8 (32-bit) r1347,

No joy.

As a test, I exported the backglass and reimported into a new B2S project, using minimal lighting.

B2S still crashes without a hint of a log file.

Hi there.

I am pretty newbie and can`t get DOF working in lots of tables.
Especially EM tables often dont work with my DOF config.

Sometimes the "bad" tables exist in "DOF config tool", sometimes not.
In the tablescripts I almost everytime can find DOF commands, but they dont work in my setup.

Although I really love JPs work in the vpin world, it seems to me, i am having problems especially with his tables.

Is there something special with them?
Maybe someone can point me in the right direction?

These tables e.g. dont give me DOF feedback:
Aloha, Kung Fu, Crystal-Ball, JP's Captain Fantastic (Bally 1975) v3.1, Horrorburg, 4  Aces (aso).

Thanks in advance
saskm

The dof online configs are often made for one version of table.
It's not sure that YOU have this table version, maybe another older/newer or from complete other author.
Example: Just take a look in dof online config, what command for left flipper... Mostly E101
Then look into your table script at flipper lines... Maybe there is E201 for left flipper dof?

If this, you have two options... Change dof online config (save as private settings), or change script commands...

And of course: be sure that the cgamename in script is the same as the "rom-name" in dof online tool

Thanks from swabian to bavaria, digitalarts :-)

Good points, you mentioned.
I found one table with different cgamename than in DOF-Config-Tool, corrected it and ...magic....works.

Lots of tables have no entry yet in DOF-Config-Tool. So due to lacking knowledge, I have to wait for them to show up.

But there are still tables that dont work.e.g. Crystal-Ball, where ROM-Name, Cgamename and  DOF-Config-Tool seem to be fine.
Exxx numbers are also correct, but no feedback success.

UPDATE

1.0.2 Updated 24.08.2023
- updated DOF commands by pedator

I do not have DOF, so the DOF must be done by other people who has DOF and it is able to do that config.
In my opinion the DOF config should have a default config for tables which are not yet updated with their own commands, maybe it is something that Arngrim could add?

Not possible for a NON rom table JP

DOF would have no idea of what the table is doing, if the table does not talk to it.
And DOF like VPinMAME works by gamename or B2S name, that is how it knows what is running

There is a generic DOF of sorts
You could PM me, i can give you a basic list of DOF parts, Events, and how to blindly add them
DOF guys still have to make a public config though.

Now they could make a config called "Generic" i suppose
With a simple basic DOF setup
And as long as you adhere to using those events, and define your tables b2s name as "Generic"
it would technically work i think?

Should be able to make different 20 tables
adhere to the same exact events matrix
and give them all the same bs2 name
And all would work.

On the flip side
If you use the same events matrix in all tables
And list that matrix in comments at top of the script
Any DOF user can go create their own custom config to match, Conehead wrote a tutorial on doing that and it works.

DOF is much like B2S though, if a ROMless table does not say HI I AM DOING A DOF EVENT NOW, nothing will happen regardless of config.

Thanks, wiesshund, I'll keep leaving the DOF to the people who know what they are doing and have a DOF to test it :)
