File Name: Horrorburg

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 21 Jul 2023

File Category: VPX Originals

Author(s): jpsalas
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

After several months in the making, and without any other introduction or video, here you have a VPX8 original table for you to have some fun.

This table was a request by MaxCore to match the artwork of his cabinet (as you can see in one of the pictures). He had some very nice ideas about the gameplay and music, all based on horror movie killers. But instead I made a table without much horror or gore so kids of all ages may enjoy. I made the graphics using cartoons of the best known horror movie characters.

The table was inspired by the Stern machine "Jurassic Park The Pin Home edition". I used the layout of the table with some changes, and also the rules were inspired by Stern's table, although there are many changes, of course :)

I should like to thank MaxCore for suggesting a table to match his cabinet art. I tried my best to use those red/blue colors,

Thanks, also, to wiesshund for testing the table and his input & suggestions.

Table and graphics by me, and the music was made by Tyler Bates.

Read the included manual for a better overview of the table, background story and it's goals. It is just a simple page, so it will be easy to read :)
I have omitted several things that you will need to find for yourself :) But you will find multiballs, hurry-ups, hostages, balloons, extra balls ++

This table is for VPX8, as it uses several new ways to do animations and flashers, and it will not work fine in older VPX.

Enjoy! Or better said, I hope you enjoy the table :) It has been great fun to make it :)

Thanks JP.
I hope MaxCore will make a VR version based on his cabinet, but for now, it plays fine in cabinet mode as well !

By the way, I made a very simple directb2s. The table uses FlexDMD for the cabinet version, so feel free to make a better db2s! :D

The table uses my latest VPX physics, Rev 3 :) And by using the built inn VPX8 animations it should be stutter free on most computers :)

Excellent finally again an Orginal Table from you.

Typical jpsalas:

Awesome playability
Looks super
File only few mb large (22,1 mb)
The sound fits perfectly with the theme
(When the BONUS is added I would wish for some sound)

Many thanks for this enrichment

Nope. I changed that :) Originally I wrote it as a 3 ball multiball, but I changed it to a 2 minutes scoring feast with just one ball :)

I guess the manual still says a 3 ball multiball, but it is not :)

JP, that was good thinking when you put in your OP: I have omitted several things that you will need to find for yourself  :)

This was probably not what you had in mind, but still a good sentence to put in every new release.

I have uploaded a Hauntfreaks directb2s, which needed a few extra lines in the table to turn on some flashers on the directb2s.

The table is the same, the only difference are the extra lines.

UPDATE

1.0.1 Updated 19.08.2023
- fixed the music volume, which may be off as default. Now you may change the volume at the beginning of the script:
Const SongVolume = 0.2 ' volume is from 0 to 1
- added Hauntfreaks script changes for his directb2s effects.

This is a small bug fix where the music could be silent, and you may not realize that there was music in the table :)
I also added the small script changes for the directb2s made by Hauntfreaks. So now there is only one table and not two :)

I haven't heard much about this table, I guess next time I'll need to make flyers, and a lot of publicity, at least 6 months before the release, and make a lot of videos, and a release party with fireworks, and so on :D

You are JPSalas. Everything you touch is good and is appreciated by the community.
You don't need YouTube videos 6 months before release, or a discord channel, or streaming video which gives me a headache within 1 minute..

But yeah, I like to have a flyer in my mailbox. So a +1 for me for flyers !

Anyway, the table is a kind of clone of Jurassic Park Home edition. Same layout, different theme, and similar rules. at least the main things to do are similar.

I guess now, people will make a mod, oh well

That's great. I never would have noticed that. Power outage definitely makes sense now :otvclap:
Also, I'll take Horror Icons over Dinos anyday.
Thanks for making a dream fantasy of mine as a vpin table JP

I thought only children liked dinos :D and it was something you grew out of it, but I see some people at Stern like dinos :) I have always been more a Dracula fan than dinos, and I remember I read Bram Stocker's Dracula several times when I was a kid, So in the Horrorburg table I had to add Dracula :D

Why not both? Vampiric dinosaurs... or Were-saurs? Terrifying.
