File Name: Phantom of the Paradise (2021)

File Submitter: wpilot

File Submitted: 06 May 2021

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): Mark Paulik (wpilot), Javier1515, Brendan Baily, Ivantba (For his Evil Dead 3 Setup)
Manufacturer: Original
Year: 2021
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Phantom of the Paradise Pinball is a visual and Audio MOD of Junkyard Cats by Javier1515 and Brendan Bailey (Evil Dead 3 Army of Darkness is also a great MOD of JYC and that table was produced by Ivantba). All visuals are produced by Mark Paulik (wpilot • Marcade MODs) with just a few scripting changes.

If Phantom of the Paradise isn't your thing check out Junkyard Cats or the Evil Dead 3 tables - It's a really fun table to play!

All audio and music from the film has been edited and included in the sound manager - No other external music or sound files are needed.
As with all my table designs I have created a DMD screen setup on the Apron.

The default for this table is with the DMD on Apron turned OFF.
If you have a single screen setup and like to have the DMD show on the Apron. Simply:
1) Select the Apron in VPX
2) Change the "Image" in the right Options panel from "phantom_apron02" to "phantom_apron01"
3) Adjust the table angle to your liking. The DMD can be positioned for your specific setup under the "Back Glass View"
4) Save the table

No ROM is required for this table.
There is no Back Glass I produced for this table - I'm sure some nice person here in the Forums will produce one.

If I'm missing any credits for this table please PM me and I will update the listing.
All art and design is produced as Fan art. No part of the table should be used for sale or resale. This game is shared via open source and not intended for sale.

About Phantom of the Paradise (The film):
Phantom of the Paradise is a 1974 American musical film written and directed by Brian De Palma. The story is a loosely adapted mixture of The Phantom of the Opera, The Picture of Dorian Gray and Faust and also briefly references Frankenstein and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

Mix "the Phantom of the Opera" with "Faust" and "the Picture of Dorian Gray", sprinkle it all with 1970's electric glam-rock, Gothic horror and uttermost baroque scenery and costumes. And there you get "Phantom of the Paradise", a picture that has everything to be the perfect cult movie, and wouldn't garner as much attention as its more famous counterpart "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", released one year later.

Cast

Paul Williams as Swan /Singing Voice of The Phantom
William Finley as Winslow Leach/The Phantom
     Jessica Harper as Phoenix
Gerrit Graham (Raymond Louis Kennedy, singing [uncredited]) as Beef
     George Memmoli as Philbin
Archie Hahn], Jeffrey Comanor, Colin Cameron, and Harold Oblong as The Juicy Fruits /      The Beach Bums / The Undeads
Rod Serling (uncredited) as Introductory voice
Music By Paul Williams

Man you have no idea how much I am loving this table! What an incredible job. I have a shit eating grin on my face that is going to be here for days. This is one of my two favorite films of all time and I'm an old-school pinball fan. Thank you so much for putting this together! I posted a video of me playing it to the Phantom of the Paradise Fanatics Facebook group. You rock sir!

One small bug that I'm sure was a tricky thing to troubleshoot. There are a number of places where competing audio streams overlap. Also at the very start the "Swan stole my music and framed me!" gets cut off which is a shame as it's perfect for that spot.

Yeah the audio stuff is always a challenge. I scroll through the entire movie audio to find clips of things that both are iconic of the film and work as little snippets for the table. I wasn't always successful and there's a few music cues that need to be shortened. I may take another run at the audio in the future, but I need to take a break and just play for a while.
