It seems roms are getting shut down. New tables here at VPforums have no roms. The place that had a rom (stargat5) said that you had to be a registered owner of the physical pinball machine to download it and required documentation.

And FP is "expired"; new downloads will not run but instead give this error message. I am glad I didn't create a table in FP or it would just be lost to me forever.

Could this be the beginning of the end for virtual pinball?

You're *years* late to the party lol. Only Gottlieb shut down ROMs (and they're still plenty available) and the FP expiration is well known and long ago bypassed.

Umm, Huh?

For ROM's google is your friend, certain IP owners dont like their ROMs hosted (IE Gottlieb)

And FP is not expired, you just have some very old janky copy of FP

go over to ravercade and get the BAM - FP 2 in 1 installer

Yes. This is the end

The End?
No, the journey doesn't end here.
Death is just another path, one that we all must take.
The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.

White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

Four tokens per credit, of course

Sounded like something Gandalf told Bilbo Baggins, before they got on the elf ships and left.

The two top links for FP install gave me the expired version. One of those was from VPforums. If the problem was solved why don't either of these have a working version of FP?

I haven't dealt with FP, only got interested when I saw the TZ table. I will try ravercade installer.

If all these roms are available tell me where...I have googled 'til my mouse hand bled.

(Still haven't addressed why VPforums doesn't have roms for newer tables).

Anyone remember Limewire, Napster, Torrents? Shut down. I see roms getting shut down at some point.

Why should roms should get shut down?

The contrary is true IMHO. Whereas in the past one had to resort to rather shady sites with weird popups, or unreliable torrents that never finish, nowadays one has stuff like https://archive.org/ where even the most obscure sets and rips are hosted.

And on top the majority of professional game companies use open source emulators to release their official/licensed retro-collections. So IMHO again, all good.

And my quick search on archive: https://archive.org/details/vpinmame

The problem with counting on someone elses collection being complete, comes into play.

It is best to do all the work yourself, that way you know exactly what you have in your collection.

If you check that particular rom collection, you will find many roms are missing files inside of them. Some are missing sound files, others missing other files.

100's of those roms in that collection are missing files. (And I mean hundreds!!!)

(Makes me wonder how it can be ran through an audit, and those roms with missing files still show as good).

Best to do your own hunting and collecting, and testing them.(Not with audit of roms, but actually playing the tables.)

I think I got stargat5 by way of Google/MSN/Outlook. Was not at "Archive.org. Will see if I still have the table...

[EDIT] After installing "stargat5.zip" into roms folder "Stargate" would start but not give credits when coins were inserted. This has been a common problem I have had with games. I know how to do F3 to reset simulation. I know about the coin door.

I would guess this is a ROM problem unless someone knows how to change the code to make it work.

Thank all of you if any of these links get working ROMS. So far, no good.

Some tables need a pre-initialized nvram to accept quarters.

Download this pre-initialized nvram package here..

https://www.vpforums...s&showfile=1362

Place contents of package in your nvram folder located where you installed VPinMAME.

Now all of the tables that weren't accepting coins, will now accept coins, allowing you to play the tables.

The set at archive.org is apparently complete. No missing sets whatsoever.
