File Name: Dixieland (Bally 1968)

File Submitter: luvthatapex

File Submitted: 06 Dec 2020

File Category: VPX Recreations

Author(s): luvthatapex/kees/stat
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1968
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

ok, put on your favorite 60s tunes and fire up this new release from 1968. Ballys Dixieland 1968.

This is a Ted Zale classic with his signature moves like zipper flippers, opening and closing gates and not one but 2 death lanes. This also supports the D-I-X-I-E-L-A-N-D carry over feature that retains letter status over subsequent plays. Earn the last letter and earn a replay. This is a single player 5 ball game with several replay scores. 1800 units made with very few surviving over the years. Needless to say resources were non-existent for this game aside from a few screen shots and a few videos but I managed to cobber a playfield and plastics set that isn't great but has to do for now. Hopefully I have the rules correct. Feel free to make it better!
File contains table, flyers, directb2s and images for your cab.

Special Thanks to Kees for the Dogies script that was the starting point for the table, STAT for help with the b2s and Scottacus for the carry over logic example. Its been a long time since I made a table so hopefully I posted this correctly.

Enjoy.

Thank you Stat! It is a royal PITA to comment out all the script to make some tables work. I gave up on some tables due to the controller error issue making things difficult. Didn't want to miss out on this table due to the great playfield design. :D

I could have been smart, but I never learned anything by being smart!

Thank you for this old table. I was six years old when the table was born.
And now I can play it on vpx.

Today I set it up for my laptop. Some spots on the bumper were pink.
So get to work.I then changed the lights for my pleasure. Changed
the pov and worked on the backglass. Now i am happy.

Pink spots usually means no texture or material applied to surface
You could apply a material, or is surface is not meant to be seen anyways, uncheck the visible flag

In desktop mode, is there a way to get the backglass to stay on top?

@Quickdraw19

Try this handy dandy dB2SDT starter pack for DT users. (Added as attachment.) (Comes with Instructions, b2s.exe, and screenres.txt)

Attached File  db2sDT starter pack.zip   498.43KB   8 downloads

(You may need to right click on b2s.exe and run as administrator if it doesn't work the 1st time)

Basically you add 3 lines of script to table, and make sure b2s.exe is in same folder as table and backglass and screenres.txt.

This will keep the backglass up on screen for Desktop Users.

Here are instructions...

Place this part of script right above the table init sub. (So it is placed outside of the table init sub.)

Dim apprun
Set apprun = CreateObject("wscript.shell")

Then place this part of the script in the table init sub.

apprun.Run("b2s.exe")

Now make sure you have Table, Backglass, b2s.exe, and screenres.txt file ALL in same folder.

The 3rd and 4th numbers on the screenres.txt adjust the size of backglass.

The 5th number down, tells where the backglass is displayed. (Should be 1 for DT users with one screen.)

Enjoy!!

Here is example pic of what script should look like after you edit it on this particular table.

those who know me IRL know I have a long history with Dixieland. It all started with a free populated playfield a guy was throwing away and a cabinet I found a year later on craigslist. I never could find a backglass though doggone it and this was before anyone would repro one. In the end I donated it all to the pacific pinball museum in hopes they could get it all together. So my old pal luvthatapex did 'er up in vpx? Nicely done sir! Thanks for bringing back the memories

xenonph, thanks. However, the backglass is starting up fine with or without this change. I should have been more clear about my problem. When I load the table, the b2s is starting up correctly, but it doesn't stay on top of the main VPX window. I can see it by Alt-Tab and selecting, then it shows up over VPX. As soon as I click on the main screen to play, it gets hidden again. I've since tried other tables and it's happening with those too, so it looks like it's not a problem specific to this table. The B2S backglass stayed on top before I upgraded from 10.6 to 10.7. If there's a setting to make it stay on top, I can't find it.
