Just installed using the all-in-one installer 10.5. Unfortunately any time I try to open a table in VPX I get the "visual pinball cannot load a file of that version" message. The other versions all seem to work fine. It's installed outside the program folder, I've made sure compatibility mode is set, etc. but every time get the same thing. I've tried reinstalling several times but no joy. Any ideas?

Thanks!

There should be no reason to use compatibility mode or Run as administrator (admin)

There should be no reason to use compatibility mode And only Run as administrator as needed

Okay, but NOT running in compatibility or as administrator has the same result for me. Anyone know of a possible fix?

Are you using VPinballX.exe to open a vpx table?

What exe are you using and what exact table files are you trying to open

Yes, I'm using VPinballX.exe. I've tried probably ten different table files downloaded from the VPX download section. The VP9 and VP8 exes work just fine with any of the earlier version tables. I've tried reinstalling more times than I can count, both inside and outside the Program Files folder. I've tried running the VPinballX.exe app every possible way. I'm running Windows 10 Home on an Alienware 17 R5.

Those that are mostly at the beginning of the alphabet - 2001, Aces High, Airport, Algar, Ali, Aquarius, Atlantis, etc. I wasn't able to open any of these so stopped trying after about 10 or so.

So to confirm you are getting your VP10 tables from here:

https://www.vpforums...oads&showcat=50

Vp10 or VPX tables have the file extension of .vpx    By chance are you getting tables with .vpt file extension?

To help clarify .vpt are older file formats and are VP9 versions and below, the .vpx are the vp10 tables

Yes, I'm getting .vpx files only from the archives here. I do have some older format files in the tables folder, but they don't even show up in the open dialog of the VPX.exe. One of those that doesn't work is 2001 (Gottlieb 1971).vpx.

Sounds like the table files you downloaded are corrupt then. Try downloading the file again or maybe try a vpx table from vpinball.com

Is the file blocked?

Before you unzip the file ....right click it go to properties.... At the bottom if it's indicates that the file is block - click unblock and apply then try unzipping the game

I did make sure to unblock before extracting. Just to be safe I tried upacking using both WinRar and 7-Zip. Just for kicks I tried downloading the most popular VPX table on the site (AFM_1.2.0.vpx) and the corresponding ROM file (afm_113b) making extra sure to follow all the steps recommended. I get the same exact error message.

You say you have "other older format files" in tables folder?

Does that include any VBS Scripts perhaps?

If you have scripts in your table folder, try deleting them all or move them all to your Scripts folder.

This may be your problem.

You should only have one set of scripts, and they should all be in your scripts folder and nowhere else.

Make sure you have no copies anywhere else where Visual Pinball is installed.

No VBS scripts installed. There's nothing in my Tables folder other than the one AFM_1.2.0.vpx file and the files installed by the backglass server. I'd post a screenshot of the error but don't have an image hosting service at the moment. I should note this is a clean install on a new laptop.

If you open vpinballx.exe, can you click on File->New->Blank Table   and then save this table as test.vpx.  Close vpinballx.exe and then open that table test.vpx?

Yes, it opens that file without error. Still can't open downloaded vpx files unfortunately.

I'm having the same problem and I've tried 3 different tables with their corresponding roms.  I run Windows 7, scripts in scripts folder, ran the setup in vpinmame folder, vpx files in tables folder, and roms in roms folder.  I've uninstalled everything, reinstalled, compatibility mode (which I read is no longer required but I tried it anyways), ran as admin (again no longer required but troubleshooting)...What gives?  Is there a problem with the newest all in one installer (VP10)?!?

Can you run Vpinball.exe and open it OK?  Have you checked under the Preferences Menu / Editor/UI options.  Make sure that Start VP with File Dialog has no tick.  That way you should be able to open the .VPX files from the File menu and then try to start the game.  I usually only get this error when I try to load say a new beta 10.5 version file when still only running 10.4 .exe
