File Name: Paragon (Bally 1978)

File Submitter: bord

File Submitted: 23 Nov 2016

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): bord
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1978
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Here is Bally’s 1978 classic Paragon for VPX. This table is a monster. Very wide, very heavy, very difficult and very fun. I hope this version does it some justice. I spent 2 hours playing it on location last weekend and think the VPX version mimics it nicely.

32assassin rewrote the script for me some months back. This was my first SS project at the time and I had a real Frankenstein mess going on. Thanks, 32a!

Make sure you run this with the latest VPX 10.2 build.

Looks awesome! Thanks.

What do people normally do with widebodies in cabinets? Run them with black space up top, down the bottom, both?  ...or even make a filler perhaps?  I would assume stretch to fit would be out of the question, as that would make table elements look horrible and totally negate the point of a widebody.

Good question. I haven't found a good method with Paragon (obviously). I don't like stretching generally and couldn't find a good fit so I just left the black space above the table. Let me know if you come up with something good.

I guess we could come up with a generic back wall design for all the widebodies, so we could reduce the y axis and not have a black bar in the back.  Would that work?

Should I get any sound from the table other then the bumpers/etc? I tried F6 and set to chime &  tunes and also tried noises.

What about putting the score display back there a-la Centaur II and the Eight Ball Deluxe did?

Went back to the basics and realized that with all the pinmame updates going on, I didnt have the "Samples" directory and the required .zip file from the "Getting Started->Sound Samples"

I have the same problem, allknowing, and I even have the sound sample package.  My switches are set to chimes and tunes... still no sound.

Any chance your dont have them in the correct folder? ie. do you have multiple vpinmame installs.

I have <vp>/VPinMame/samples/s3250u3.zip

Unblocked etc.

Yeah, it's in that same folder structure... I just tried unblocking, but still no sound.

*edit*  Just figured it out... "use samples" was unchecked in the F1 menu.

Hi! what happens to me is when the ball comes over the left flipper it doesn't bounce at all...a way to describe it is, if the flipper was a magnet, the ball still would bounce a lot more :(

I tried changing elasticity to higher values but still the same.

I don't know if there is something wrong in my side, other tables work just fine.

Hi sdfsdfsdfr,

please change the Physics setting for the element "LFPrim" to "Toy". That should take care of your trouble. I'll fix this in version 1.1 later on.

Best,

bord
