If we want to give Gary a break we can't do a machine that's currently on sale, that's considered theft.

If you where a designer/engineer/operator how would you react seeing a copy of something that's supposed

to support all those people at your company ? This hobby already is a gray area, don't make it a black one.

boy could i go on for days with this one....

I'll make it short....  VP will never, could never ever affect real machine sales.... we are nowhere close to reinvent enough in the real pinball world....

and i believe 100% this is the truth

Real pinball is definitely in its final days, but it's not because of VP.  Home video game consoles killed the arcade and it happened years ago... and now Stern is opening up it's tables for sale on home video game consoles... certainly it is a weird world we live in.

Stern and Pinball Arcade are releasing a digital version of Ghostbusters on PC, IOS, Android, so probably not a good idea to pursue...

I'm not talking about reproducing tables currently in production. I'm talking about stashing away resources for a future time. It may not be so easy to find pristine resources captured from new machines when the world determines that it is the appropriate time for a VP version or whatever. The point is moot because the member providing the forbidden resources cross-posted on all sites anyway. Some are promotional images. So, whatever.

Not just any pinball machine. It's currently in production. You are stealing eyeballs from Stern.

Real pinball is on its way back big time, if Northern California is any indication. The Bay Area is barcade central. Fren could tell you it's exploding in Portland. The Skill Shot zine documents an amazing Seattle pinball scene. VP can only help raise awareness for the greatness of the real thing. Symbiosis!

i would like to have a better SAM Stern emulation first, that supports LE games, if we can't do that, i don't see how we can implement newer systems like Spike

Who does such a thing? vp and mame .. seems like its been around forever .. are there people still around that can dig thru the bits & bytes to make sense of the rom code anymore? I know the one dude on pinside has atleast figured out most of the sounds/dmd coding and that seemed like no easy feat at all.

Big props to anyone that can even get started -- perhaps that is what is needed .. and open source start at such a project.

(perhaps pushing the boundaries of the fourm rules here)

It's not about hurting sales. It's about respecting the industry. You know, the one we supposedly love so much we're preserving it here? We were asked to NOT recreate new Stern tables. For the love of Gawd, how hard is that?! Of course, Greg asked us personally in our chatroom to not do WNBJM when he was kind enough to drop in for a visit, but I see that didn't get the respect it deserved either, eh?

pinball machines are build to be sold, so its all about sales... the honeymoon has been over for many years...

playing VP and all the other emulations is like playing one of those virtual life games....

there's real life and their simulated life games

there's real pinball and there is simulated pinball games

we all need to realize the difference.... there is no crossover of the two... each is it's own entity

this doesnt mean someone can't like and enjoy both, just that there isnt a confusion of the two...

as for respect...

respect is that if it's common place to shit on the carpet in your own house, but when you go to someone else's house you refrain from doing so....

This isn't about sales ...

When the IP owner asks to not create a simulation of their product, it's okay to just say 'screw it' and do it anyway?

I disagree wholeheartedly, sorry.

We are here to preserve pinball history, not recreate its present. I'm very disappointed with members just doing whatever they want, regardless of how it could affect our community. There will come a time when it all comes crashing down, because a few people just couldn't, or wouldn't, respect the wishes of the industry.
