File Name: Totem MOD physmod

File Submitter: evilantal

File Submitted: 05 Oct 2014

File Category: VP 9.x MOD Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): evilantal
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1979
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Well here goes, my first try at modding :)

I upgraded Luvthatapex's table to a more modern look, borrowing bits and pieces from all over the place.

What's done:
- Replaced playfield with one from the FP version
- Made new plastics from IPDB source
- Redid the light inserts
- Added ballrolling routine
- Added some static lighting
- Replaced stuff with primitives (rubbers, posts, screws, rubber wheel, triggers)
- Added slingshot animation
- Redid a few textures with FP ones (targets, bumpers)
- Modded physics to physmod5

There's still lots more that could be done but I'd have to learn a bit more first ;) I'll probably revisit the table as I learn new stuff....eventually.
Most pressing would probably replacing the varitarget and bumpers with primitives.

Thanks to:
Luvthatapex (original table)
Francisco666 (FP version textures)
Rascal/Pinuck (ball rolling routine borrowed from Abra Ca Dabra)
LoadedWeapon (flasher objects borrowed from Time Machine NM)
unclewilly, gtxjoe, Dark and Zany (primitive templates/objects)
JP Salas (slingshot animation routine)
Arngrim (DOF code)

Really nice job, it looks great!

Two things, first you listed this as Desktop and it's actually a cabinet build.  I was going to rotate it anyway, but the Desktop people will be disappointed to say the least.

The other thing is I played two games and both times I got the ball stuck bouncing between the left bumper and the left plastic.  Could not nudge it free and had to restart the game.  Tilting wouldn't even stop the perpetual loop.

Not really sure what might help this issue, maybe a stronger bumper? As it is it just pushes the ball far enough to bounce off the plastic right back to the same spot on the bumper.

Oops... didn't notice I had the wrong section. Damn.

Moved the file over to FS section.

I had the stuck ball earlier as well, but indeed strengthened the bumper and thought it was resolved. I'll work on that some more. Maybe strengthen it some more and move it a teenee bit to the right will do the trick.

EDIT: Ah, I see. Somehow that strengthening had stayed in an earlier version :( I think I've fixed it now...

I also changed the posts to white for a more authentic look

Is there a way to set this to free play?  Or a way to change the coin button?  I don't know how to change it on older gottlieb tables like this.

Does anyone have a primitive or isolated png of EM rollovers to add to the table?

Table plays really great now and I think you have solved the ball getting stuck problem at the left bumper. I was going to mention the rollovers but I see you are already on that.

One thing I have noticed that if you shoot the ball up the right site lane past the star rollovers a lot of the time I get no sound of the rollovers.

They always sound off when the ball rolls down the lane. I don't know if they are scoring the rollovers I just know that I don't hear them.

Is it possible that the ball actually misses them going up the lane?

Looks great but can't get it to play - Not sure if anyone knows the fix for this.  When I upload it onto my Dad's cabinet it won't accept credits.  I deleted the nvram and re-downloaded the totem.zip rom.  I tried a F3 reset.  I also tested it through the vpinmame rom tester but no keys make it accept credits.    Any help greatly appreciated.

Yea I don't really know why but it's not working for me.   I changed the VPMkeys as 'blur' had instructed and could still never get the coin to register with key '5' it seems to want to stick to '7'.  I don't think I ever managed to get a ball into the launch lane except with the first version which had the bumper bug.  Since then I've been able to get credits added with key 7 but can't get the game to start and I've tried every key.  This is the only Gottlieb table I'm having this particular issue with.  Freddy nightmare on Elmstreet required I use the 'x' key to start the game for some reason but it's credits still worked with the normal coin key (5).

Since changing coin1 to key 5 like in the instructions linked above with blur's instructions multiple credits get added to gottlieb tables, which I don't mind too much but it would be nice if I could get this table working.

I changed VPMKeys as per blur's instructions and that did work for me with key '5', so that is odd.

Yea I don't understand it, I tried replacing the table (again) with the 1.2 version and deleting the nvram...irritating.

I'm afraid I can't help any more than that...don't know another way. Sorry about that, guys!

Working on another little update by the way, but it's going slow as other things keep coming up :S

It will have fixes for the right rollovers not triggering when shooting the ball up through the lane (it misses them by hugging the right rail), added rollovers in the outlanes, tweaked flippers (it had done that in an earlier revision, but apparently didn't incorporate it in the released version).

Weird. I changed my vpmkeys as blur outlined and it worked fine for me.
