File Name: Sharkey's Shootout

File Submitter: freneticamnesic

File Submitted: 31 May 2014

File Category: VP 9.x Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): freneticamnesic
Manufacturer: Stern
Year: 2000
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

My first release, go easy on me

Thanks to:
gtxjoe and oooPLAYER1ooo for a lot of scripting help and overall tips for maintaining sanity
destruks old table for base script (helped a lot - and was the only thing keeping me going until I got the manual)
Dazz and arngrim for testing
Wildman for the great playfield image
randr for the manual scan
Rascal for reasons unknown
unclewilly pointed me in the right direction on a few things

I think a lot of people ended up helping out (if I missed you let me know), it was tedious, there were bugs... I have played this a lot now and I feel like it's mostly bug free.

I give blanket permission to mod. However, if it's something that you feel really would make the original table better let me know, I'd like to add it and keep it uniform. There are things I hope to return to and update later, ie. primitive drop targets and rom controlled GI

One warning before anyone plays this table: you will hate Jeanette Lee very soon.

Table was mostly built in 9.2.1 but switched to 9.9.0 in the last few weeks. Probably need to play it in VP 9.9.0

Thanks for table! I hate to ask as I've done this on many, many tables... but I can't for the life of me find where to rotate dmd!

Thanks for table! I hate to ask as I've done this on many, many tables... but I can't for the life of me find where to rotate dmd!

Go to Start > Run and type "regedit" and press enter, navigate the folder tree like normal and go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Freeware and find "shrksht" (the rom name for Sharkey's) and scroll down on the right side window until you see "ror" and "rol" - double click "ror" and enter "1" as the value, then try and run it. If that didn't work, ie. it went the wrong direction, enter a value of 1 for "rol" and keep trying combinations until it's displaying properly.

I'm not sure why the DMD is rotated on this, it was for me as well to begin with.

Can't you also edit the table script and change the value of rol from 0 to 1 or vice versa?

Or am I doing it wrong?

Nope that works as well, but if he's like me he may have several versions of the same table that use the same rom. I am a table hoarder though.

That's what had me stumped. I had a working, rotated older version and had (I think) always made change in script. I have an odd bg setup so this came up a lot! I even copied the options from another table to this one. But I clearly had no biz getting too deep in script :/

Thanks again

Thanks! This is another super table! It really gets my puls up, it is fast!
Sometimes, it however gives even my computer a match, resulting in some stutter.
This is very unusual, and I don't have this on any other table. Anybody having any idea on how to set or tweak something, that resolves this? I can play several games in a row without any problem, but then something get messed up and I get stutter.....
Is it the table, or is it VP 9.9.0 ?

I'm not sure, your computer is much more powerful than mine and I haven't seen stutter here. There's not much going on that should be processor intensive.. is it things like your flippers aren't responding when you press them? or does the ball actually jump around?

No, it is the "ball jumping around" type of stutter. And it is just showing up after having played several games in a row. I kind of suspects the dB2S. I will try some alternatives, like turnign the backglass off. I'll get back.

I guess that my computer must have chewed on something unsuitable...  :bad:  ... I haven't been able to reproduce even after testing, testing and more testing.... (Which actually have been really fun  :D ) Sorry for accusing your table.

I have a question though... Since I haven't been playing this table for real, I wonder about the setting of flipper no 1 (the upper one). It is really hard to make the "final kill" i.e., setting the eight ball in the upper right lane. It feels like it is lacking the power. You have set this flipper to speed=0,05 strength=6, whereas flipper 2&3 have speed=1 and strength=0,15.

Is the "killing shot" so difficult with flipper 1 in the real world and am I cheating if I increase the blow in this flipper, making it easier to make the shot?

Thanks again for a great table ! Eventually, I WILL beat them all......

edit: And one more thing,,,, I hope this table will have an update to new physics as soon as the devs are ready with VP10. It really deserves to be updated as soon as possible.

Interesting point, I didn't get a whole lot of time on this table, the local one disappeared about 2 weeks into my build. I always got the right loops with the lower flippers, so I don't suspect it's that difficult intentionally. It's a hard machine to test because it seems to be pretty rare.

If I recall correctly, I forgot to adjust the physics on the upper flipper to match the lower flippers. Try that and see if it helps, the lower flipper settings improved accuracy a bit. I am going to release an update in a few weeks that will include the corrected upper flipper setting as well.

There is a PHYSMOD version of this table available elsewhere, if you are familiar with that at all - it is great and may help.

hi - tried this table and the sound volume is extremely low even with the rom sound on max level. Sound on the VP table in the editor is max for sound and music as well. No problems with other tables and already deleted the corresponding nv file. Didn't help.

I am using VP 9.9.2

Hi, try to press the key "END" and then adjust volume with keys "9" and "8" (above letters keys)

You do not need to press the end key to adjust the volume on the Whitestar tables.  Follow this procedure to do this:  http://www.vpforums....ials&article=49

I would also check your DOF configuration to see if there are issues with DOF and volume.  (Don't know if this table is DOF supported though)

Hope this helps.

yes, the 8 and 9 key method is working. Volume bar of the rom is max (it does change volume level a bit, but it is still extremely low)

I don't use DOF at all - can you disable that to be sure it doesn't interfere?

The method ta2686 showed should work for these games.

You can also try to click the DMD with mouse and hit the Tilde Key ~  (It should be below your Esc Key) then you can adjust volume from here.

You can hit the bottom arrow to see other volume options.

Use the arrow keys to adjust.

Hope this helps.

Tried that as well. It is 0db so max. It is the only table with this problem, so not a huge issue but it still would be nice to have a solution.

I tried this morning and I just can hear sounds (bumpers, targets...), but no music

And it's also the only table with this problem (I use VP992 with VPinMAME 2.7)

Freneticamnesic, where can we find your VPX version ?
