The only time I really have trouble with it is with PBX.  If I use my other frontend (Launchbox) to start the tables, I don't have the issues with losing focus.  Not sure if that means it's something in PBX, or just something specific to my setup.

for right now I think this is something Tom can add directly into PBX .... I've pointed him to this thread so he fulling understood the solution...

Thanks for reaching out to Tom, HF. And, Tom -- thank you for the amazing front end! It is literally enjoyed daily by our family.

For anyone who doesn't know for the ddraw you can always set the 'default' ROM entry in the registry to 0 and then that will be picked up for all new ROMs by default.

Great info. How do you find the default ROM? Sorry I'm so spooked by regedit! Can you give us a little more instruction? Thanks, Atarian.

Hey Ben... it's in the same place as all the individual rom entries, it's just actually called "default".  I'm assuming you just make a new entry there for ddraw (dword, 0).

I found one more thing that you do lose by using this true fullscreen, is the ability to using the screen capture function within PBX.... I use the function, I know other guys dont , so its really not a big deal....

That would be a good feature request for pbx. Have you tried Fraps? It should work.

Yes, I noticed that too. Using S to screenshot the table image only gives a black screen. Using B for the backglass image still works though.

Fullscreen shots have to go thru directX, I believe I read somewhere... that's how Fraps works... but Fraps can't do normal screenshots.  They would have to change the PBX screenshot function to work like Fraps.

Cool to know. I love using "legacy" media packs in PBX. Vintage VP! It's fun to see the way the tables have evolved from VP8 up to the present.
