Get ready for a whimsical, psychedelic, rainbow overload! This is my first original VP table, built entirely from scratch using only the blank starter table. It’s based on the general theme of magic, or rather "manufacturing magic" inside a pinball machine. Most of the art is hand-painted by me, and the rest are just textures filtered through the style of my real paintings with DeepStyle. All of the music is composed by me. Sound effects were made with LabChirp. The table is meant to sort of be a "work of art" in game form; and it's designed to be FUN more than anything -- and for that reason, it's supposed to be pretty easy. For more of my art, search "Spectrowhirl" on Etsy, Bandcamp, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, etc.

[TO PLAY THIS TABLE USING THE FILES UPLOADED TO THE FORUM, DOWNLOAD ALL 3 .RAR FILES TO ONE FOLDER AND EXTRACT THE FIRST FILE "The Spellcast Machine.part1.rar" -- THAT SHOULD COMPILE ALL 3 FILES INTO A PLAYABLE VPX TABLE THAT YOU CAN SAVE ANYWHERE]

THE SPELLCAST MACHINE

You are the operator and engineer of an enchanted device called the Spellcast Machine. With it, you are tasked with creating and refining magic itself! Craft wands, cast spells, write charms and hexes in your spellbook, gain eldritch insight by gazing into realms beyond with your third eye! But it’s not all fun and games—in order to create your magic, you must also harvest microscopic crystals from the atomic mines, purify unfiltered energy, and stow the power away for safe-keeping. As you create spells and refine your wizardry, send the magic off with brave adventurers to be used in epic quests via the multiball mode. If you’re skilled enough at the Spellcast Machine, you may attempt to light all eight sacred sigils to summon the legendary Spellstorm—the most powerful source of energy known to man.

WAND SIGIL

Craft magical scepters. Shoot the left ramp to spell “WAND.” Then shoot the base of the Big Wand to finish construction. The back of the table will display the wands you’ve created. Each one comes with its own points haul, as well as a unique reward--anything from lighting kickbacks to awarding divine tarot cards. Craft two wands to light the WAND SIGIL.

CAST SIGIL

Create spells, charms, and hexes by drawing power through interdimensional gateways. Shoot the right ramp to spell “CAST.” A nexus portal will open on one of the three ramps. Shoot the ball through the gateway three times to light the CAST SIGIL.

WRITE SIGIL

Record the spells you create in an arcane grimoire. Shoot each of the five shots that spell “WRITE” on the flashing arrows. This will prepare the spell book. One of six enchanted pages will illuminate on the table floor. Shoot the page to collect it. Then hit the captive ball to print the spell into the magical tome. Print two pages to light the WRITE SIGIL.

EYE SIGIL

No Machine Operator can simply create spells without ancient wisdom. Open your third eye to learn the secrets of magic from beyond the veil. Hit the 3rd Eye Jets fifteen times to Gaze into the Void. Three eldritch eyeballs will spawn from the depths above the ramps. Shoot each ramp once to defeat the eye. Then the mighty 3rd Eye will open. You will know it when you see it. Hit the 3rd Eye five times to defeat it and light the EYE SIGIL.

MINE SIGIL

Shrink your ball down to a microscopic scale to harvest power crystals from the atomic plane. Shoot the right orbit to spell “MINE.” This will power up the Shrinking Machine at the far left of the table. Shoot the Shrinking Machine to enter the Micro Crystal Mines. Hit the targets to mine crystals. Hit all five targets to light the MINE SIGIL. This will also spawn a larger secret crystal in the back loop of the mine worth a lot of points. Hit it enough times, and you might just dig your way to discover an ancient tarot card...

PURIFY SIGIL

Refine the raw magic you harvest until it is pure enough to use. Hit the center ramp six times to boil your concoction. Then mix in all four of the elixirs that appear on the table. You must hit each one twice to smash the potion. Smash all four to light the PURIFY SIGIL.

STOW SIGIL

After you have harvested your energy and purified it, you must stow the magic away safely in the vial. Shoot the left orbit spinner to gather magic. Once the light gauge is fully charged, the vial will open. Shoot the right orbit four times to fill the canister with magic and light the STOW SIGIL.

QUEST SIGIL

Finally, when your energy is pure and ready and your spells and wands have been created, you are prepared to dispatch it with three brave adventurers. Hit the captive ball to light the Gravity Vortex. Shoot the center gap near the Eye Jets to slingshot the ball into the vortex while it’s lit. This will lock the ball and provide you with a new one. Repeat this two more times to lock three balls and initiate the Quest Multiball. Keep your three adventurers (balls) alive as they trek into worlds unknown. Shoot the right ramp to hit the Jackpot and see what expedition the adventurers completed. Explore ancient tombs, defeat armies of robots—the list goes on! Collect one Jackpot to light the QUEST SIGIL.

SPELLSTORM

When all eight sigils have been lit, this will catalyze the Spellstorm, a collision of the most volatile and ancient magic. Shoot the Eye of the Storm to gather its unwieldly power and close the storm before it destroys you. Be careful of its powerful winds! Shoot the Eye of the Storm ten times to collect 100,000,000 points, an extra ball, and a tarot card.

TAROT CARDS

For the especially ambitious Machine Operator, there await extra rewards in the form of divine tarot cards. Lighting a sigil is one thing, but persisting during various game modes may unveil floating cards in the center of the table. For example, keep shooting through the Cast portals until a tarot card appears—or win multiple Write Quests. Not only will collecting a tarot card increase your end of ball bonus, it will permanently raise your jackpot value, AND grant a unique, temporary table feature worth MASSIVE points, such as the Enchanted Lantern of the Hermit, or the special Magician’s Wand.

EYE BONUSES

Every time you light a sigil, an Eye Bonus will appear in the plunger lane. The more you stack without losing your ball, the more points you’ll get. Collect them upon starting your next ball. Be careful, you may not be able to collect any Eye Bonuses you win during your third ball!

What's New in Version 1.2 (See full changelog)

  • -Fixed some score formatting
  • -Removed the Sword of Justice being visible at all times. I had no idea that was happening. I have no cabinet with which to test that!

Love this, what an amazingly colourful Playfield, but with no backglass it's not really usable on a Cab, I see that jogrady7 has made one so am hoping it will be uploaded soon.

Yep, should be available with the next update, along with a few minor tweaks and a new tarot card reward. Thanks for playing!

And now we have a working Backlass, thanks so much jogrady7 and CrimsonTurtle8, a nice bit of collaboration. Now I'm able to play this truly bizar looking table haha. Think it's going to take a while before I really understand it but I love the look of it.

Yes thanks again to jogrady7!! And yeah it's pretty chaotic haha. I've had moments in my own table where SO much is happening at once, but I love that chaos. It was inspired by Cirqus Voltaire where basically the different marvels are lit in totally different ways and can all happen simultaneously. So you can be hitting the Ringmaster, the balloon bumper, have a multiball going and light the volt marvels all at the same time and they were all started for different reasons, etc. Love that. I used to design tables where it was more linear like "light this, then hit the kicker to start a mode" and they can't happen simultaneously, or whatever. This way is more fun to play imho. Thanks for your interest!

Sooo, I gave it a try last night..... Couldn't stop playing! Really fun and really 'fair' to play. Very well done!

Thank you.

This table looks amazing.

I'm playing on a cabinet. Sorry if this is a dumb question. My playfield is off on this table. Is there something I need to adjust? Is that the POV file?

It's not centered. Thank you.

Hi, In the Backglass download, there is a pov file that you can import (File/Import/POV) that should fix that for a cabinet.  The other option is load the table using F6 and you will get a popup menu to manual fix things like the position of the table then save the table

Thank you so much, jogrady, still kinda learning everything. I will try it. Your backglass is awesome!

Thanks jogrady for the b2s. Still think this table could use a FlexDMD so we get some psychedelics on our real dmd's (ZeDMD, ..) :-)

Thank you for the relaxing pinball table.
I have the problem that I can't switch off the backglass DMD via the B2S server settings, I always have a black frame on the backglass on my 2screen setup.
I am doing something wrong, it hasn't been a problem with other backglasses so far. Thanks :-)

I can see how that would happen based on some setups.  That is my mistake, but is easy to fix (fingers crossed).  Try this

  • Open the Backglass file (.directb2s) with Notepad.  It is just a XML text file
  • change these settings to these shown below
      <TableType Value="1" />
      <DMDType Value="0" />
  • Save the file

I have an error with the B2S line 80 on the Asc() function.
For correct this, I removed the use of FormatNumber() in the script :

Example :

Before : ScoreText.Text = FormatNumber(Score, 0, -1, 0, -1):MessageDMD
After : ScoreText.Text = Score:MessageDMD
