Download Atari Midnight Magic 1.0

I made this back in 2017 and realized that i did not upload it here. Had to put it in originals as there is no link in the IPMD to allow me to put it in VPX recreations.
Midnight Magic Atari 2600 VPX Version
I started this to learn more the script side of things, that being said the script probably ended up a bit all over the place. I possibly could have done it way more efficiently but it works now so i am leaving it as is for now.
David Brittons original version from 2001 was what got me going. I tracked him down and got the OK to use whatever from his table which is where i got the sounds and the start of the script.
A tutorial table by Wizards_Hat and then modified by GTX as well helped me to get the high score and post it note sorted. And a tutorial table by theguyoverthere is what i used to get the score display working.
The table has 2 options at the top of the script one to change to a square ball like the original game and the other to enable or disable the bottom center post and lane kickbacks as the original had game 1 or 2. The square ball was done using the ball shadow code from Nunnizu.
I haven’t spent much time on the physics but it can always be improved. I have also added dof calls for a few things but you will have to write your own line in your config to get it working as the config is not in the DOF config tool.
Forgot to mention extra ball/buy in button for 2 player game.

B2S? Wheel?
Clever stuff indeed... I appreciate the effort it took to basically downgrade VPX to a pixel emulation level.
Did you attempt to figure out if it were possible to have a square ball rather than a round one? I wonder if this might be possible by modifying the ball shadow script so that the shadow is a square and sits above the level of the ball on the Y axis, locked to the centre of the ball, then follows the round ball keeping it obscured.
Can anyone remember how the cockroaches were created on the Cars table? Were they actually balls with some form of overlay connected to them?
I noticed that Dave Britten actually released a VP version of his table back in 2002 but his was not quite true to the pixel graphics as yours is.
Edit: Oops... I should have read your whole description regarding Dave's version and the square ball script edit. Awesome effort.
It gives me hope that one day I will be able to play MSX Rollerball in my cab. I really liked the work ![]()
My absolute favorite game growing up. Couldn't begin to tell you how many hours I had on this. GREAT RELEASE!! Thank you
This is so awesome. Lots of memories here. Thanks for creating this and sharing!
