Why even put the coin slot in? cut it to save even more!
But locking out coin play to 1 coin 5 games? why not offer light games to all? and on site as well? This does seem like what batman may of been if it was it todays cost cutting ways of stern.

To me this seems like buying a luxury car with manual locks and windows you have to hand crank.
If you are gonna spend 3,300 i think that 4,000 for the real deal is a no brainer.

I agree.

There's nothing light about them, they still weigh 250 lbs.

but even saving a $1 over 50 or more games adds up.

My bet is the profit margin on the home version is greater than that of commercial machines.
Stern's trying a new marketing angle to make money, that's all.

Yeah, curse you Stern for daring to attempt a new marketing plan to keep your company alive! *shakes fist*
Seriously though, the profit margin on the light version is probably much higher and if it keeps pinball in business, then I say party on. It also wouldn't be the first time a table was re-released by a company with some minor modifications, though it hasn't really been done recently. I'd only be concerned if they made the alterations without the designer's approval. In the case of Dark Knight, the way it was slightly reworked just brings the table more in line with Stern's current design philosophy, which is okay in my book since I think some of the Stern tables were a bit too complicated for their own good.

I do not see how this can stimulate a home market. If someone is going to drop $3300 on a pinball table then they should have no problem with the extra $700 to get commercial version. I think that the price would need to be down around $1500 before anything interesting would come of this.

What a joke. Another great example of how out of touch America's corporate CEO's really are.
A 700$ difference is just a joke. A got news for you Stern, I couldn't afford a 4,000$ machine and I still can't afford a 3,200$ machine.
Here's the lesson Stern: don't waste the man power or the resources in putting these machines out, it's going to cripple you.

Certainly the wording on the point-of-sale documentation - phrases such as "authentic arcade unit" and "official Dark Knight game" - could lead purchasers to believe this is the same machine found in arcades.
To put it nicely.
To lie like this is to scam, and nothing less.
Perhaps it would be better if Pinball just died a good death.

This, right here. The death of STERN would be the absolute worst case scenario - it shows that nobody wants pinballs, so nobody will make them anymore - thus killing pinball. And I would love to see anybody here create a pinball design that can be feasibly created with 2000 or less dollars. Tip: You'd just completely cripple the table - beyond the point of appeal for the average player.
And no. This won't mean that we can create these in VP. If I had a bloody dollar every time somebody asks for that...

You could go to CostCo and buy a Dark Knight machine!

I completely disagree. I would rather see pinball die a noble death.
Arcades are gone. People hardly play pinball at the bar, Expos are dying, and there is one company left making them (barely it seems). I think we need to get over it. They are a wonderful piece of human history.
