I picked up an older virtual pin that needs some serious upgrades and wasn’t fully configured when I got it. I’ve brought most of it back to life, but the DMD (a real, physical one) still isn’t working. Most of the discussions I can find about real DMDs vs. screen replacements are pretty outdated. In 2026, is switching to a screen basically the only practical option now? Put another way, is it even worth getting the original DMD working? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Do you happen to know what's driving the DMD?

If it's plasma, it could be a PinDMD v1 or v2.

I believe it is a PinDMD v2.  Its a nice DMD but how many games are actually supported versus a screen?  That's the sort of thing I'm debating. Thanks.

Well, if you like the 1990's tables from the arcades ... quite a few I would say. I think those normally use the (nice I think) mono-rendering of (vPinMame) rom based DMD.

There was a thread not too long ago ... someone had one and didn't know much about it. With help here ... IIRC, they got it working.

I think it would be cool to have one. At least get it working so you can observe it.
