I am a complete N00b when it comes to Future Pinball. I have been using it for years with launchbox using "Future Pinball.exe" not knowing anything about BAM. This worked fine for the simple 'non-pro' tables I'm interested in until yesterday. Suddenly, none of my tables launched.

I tried to troubleshoot the problem. For some reason I could no longer even start the Future Pinball UI! I wanted to try and simply solve the problem by updating Future Pinball with the latest version.

So I'm now following Terry Red's "Future Pinball and BAM Essentials AIO - COMPLETE : Part 1 - Intro, Install and Setup. Super Easy!" guide. I'm following the guide word by word. At step 7 I run into problems (the step where I also learned I have been using future pinball completely wrong all this time; I should have configured FPLoader in launchbox I guess).

Anyway, at 33 minutes into the guide running FPLoader as administrator for the first time the ui immediately crashes. Just like before. Yes, I did follow the guide and Windows defender is off (did this also after the reboot), all the runtime libraries / directx files were run, the configs were copied to the BAM directories, the registry has been updated, the works.

So I thought this could maybe be caused by some configuration file that was not replaced. I therefore did a complete reinstall. To be absolutely sure I did all the steps again using the fresh new FuturePinball directory that comes with the "FP and BAM Essentials AIO - Complete - 2.4.zip". This gives the same result in step 7.

I cannot find any log that could give me a clue what's causing this. Am I overlooking something? I can only consult the Windows event viewer:

Faulting application name: Future Pinball.exe, version: 1.9.2008.1225, time stamp: 0x4d1d68d3

Has anybody ever encountered this problem? Searching Google leads me to believe I'm experiencing something rather uncommon.

I'm running Windows11 on a pretty strong PC (with a GeForce RTX 4090) with plenty of resources.

Any help is appreciated.

Ok, completely removing the registry seems to help. I can now open the UI again. I hope this helps others that run into the same problem. :dblthumb:

Sorry I can't help.  I have always set up FP using my guide.  I have never used Terry's method.  I only have a simple desktop setup with just FP and BAM.  I have used Terry's FizX guides and find it helps to watch his videos.

Thank you for your reply Pinball Fan.

I got everything working using Terry's youtube video guide which is very helpful indeed. I just needed an additional step to completely remove the Future Pinball section from the Windows Registry before step 6.

Looking into step 7 in the "How to properly run Future Pinball and BAM" section, I see that I had been using Future Pinball completely wrong. In Launchbox I had "Future Pinball.exe" configured as the emulator. Also, I run Launchbox in admin mode to circumvent popups launching certain emulators. Launching "Future Pinball.exe" in admin mode in the past must have caused issues with the Windows Registry resulting in the UI not even opening anymore.

I now have launchbox use "FPLoader.exe" instead. I now also got some very new nice pinball machines working, so all in all it was time well spent!
