I feel like a spoiled child asking for a table for [Hayburners II / IPD No. 1143 / August 21, 1968 / 2 Players / Williams] and a table for [Surfers / IPD No. 2466 / December, 1967 / 1 Player / Bally].

With all the great tables that are available it seems a crime to ask for two additional ones.  I have owned many different machines through time and I believe all have been recreated on Virtual Pinball except these two and that is the reason for the request.

They both have novel features.  Hayburners II ( designed by Steve Kordek) is credited with introducing 3-inch flippers to the game of pinball in place of 2-inch flippers that were used since their introduction in 1947.  It has 4 flippers, 2 of which are zipper flippers, plus the horse race in the back glass.

Surfers (designed by Ted Zale, art by Jerry Kelley) has many interesting features: flippers (3, lower 2 are zipper flippers), pop bumpers (3), mushroom bumpers (7), kick out holes (2).  It has a great back glass with lighting balloons for a free game.

I hope this maybe peaked your interest.  Regardless, thank you for all the great tables I have enjoyed over the years.

PBecker1946 and I worked on almost 100 tables together. Someone ambitious could get them from Rogue and convert them to vpx. Phil has an open mod policy, anything he did can be improved. And since Phil bought schematics to do each table, everything is 100% correct.

If you have good high res resources for them they will be made. But getting good high res resources for tables of that Era is hard.
Maybe find someone with art skills to draw the playfield and plastics.
If that could be done. I'll build them both. But I amnot capable of redrawing

Here's what i collected for Surfer / Surf Champ so far. It's no redraws, but still resources one could use. Would you really like to recreate the table?

For me at this point.i can't seem to find a lot of resources and I'm not a redrawer. I can do a little in photshop and blender. So whatever I can find full resources for I'll build cause I enjoy doing it. Got plastics and pf for blackout on vpf so that will be out next(halfway built) then hopefully I can get what you found for me for sbm... that will be next. And so on if I can find the resources. Back in the day when I was regularly putting out tables a few people like grizz would redraw stiff for me and didn't need to be as high res for it to look good. So now I'll build whatever I can get. So if there is something you want built and you have the images 0lease send it my way. I'm slowly working through my folder of stuff.

Your responses are appreciated.  I know nothing about making tables.  I can download them and play them, not very well, but that’s about it.  What qualifies as a high resolution image ?  I take it that photos from ipdb.org or pinside.com don’t qualify.  Where else could one look ?

The table I am referring to is Bally’s Surfers.  Its name is easily confused with Surfer and Surfer Champ by Gottlieb and many others with Surf in the name.  Thank you,Roxy

We have good images of the plastics on EBAY. Quality photos of the playfield and Backglass are needed.

You mean Hayburners II...

Backglass, racetrack background, horses, plastics -- check.

Playfield... well... there's nothing perfect. But some pictures have potential. Upper playfield here, lower playfield there, some viewing angle corrections, .... but not today. Going to bed now.

There are photos of both machines (Hayburners II and Ballys Surfers) on ipdb.org and pinside.com.

There is a nice photo of the Surfers playfield at vfwpinball.com.   The website states they have the actual game at VFW Pinball Museum.  Vintagearcade.net has a series of photos of a Surfers machine for sale and they also show photos of Hayburners II for sale.  Alamogameshop.com has a Hayburners II page that has photos of every part of the machine, inside and outside.

If those photos are not suitable, maybe better photos could be requested from them.

Roxy.

You can find the photos for Hayburners II in the .zip file i uploaded (and updated) above.

Today I collected the photos for Surfers. Great backglass and a hires photo of the playfield. I started a playfield image, but lots of work to do on it (erasing all bumpers, pegs, plastics, flippers, ...).

All photos are here:

333MB with my WIP PSD file for the playfield:

49MB without the PSD file. The result of the PSD is still there:

Thank you hmueck.  That’s great !

I know nothing about making tables.  It’s all I can handle to just stay afloat in the VP world.  One thing I do know is how much I marvel at the people who do make these great games.  A second thing I know is there’s a great community of pinball people out there.  So it will be up to those good people, like unclewilly and others, to do the tables.  I will look forward to playing two old games out of my past.

I will probably release Hayburners II at some point in time.  I am currently restoring two of these machines so I have access to everything I need.

20231219_173319-min.jpg

Bord Roth and I are working on Nags (Williams 1960) which is also horse racing themed.  That table is nearing release and was the push behind picking up the barn find HB II tables.  I have a working B2S for Nags and I am in converstion with Jarr3 (the main dev for B2S) to add new functionality to B2S.  Currently snippets cannot move in B2S so the Nags B2S has over 180 snippets of horses to move them down the lanes.  Once B2S gets the upgrade to movable snippets then the horse motion will be as smooth as in vpx which is pretty impressive.

If you search on another visual pinball forum you can find a post on the progress on Nags.  Bord and I are currently pretty busy with other projects but we hope to get Nags out the gate in early 2024.
