Have been thinking about this for a little while and I don't think it will be too long before we start to see games (not just pinball) that are generated at least partly through AI (if not completely, we'll just be able to describe a game and AI will basically build it for us).

In the meantime, is anyone using AI image generators to create custom playfield or backglass graphics? Seems we are now at the level with AI art generation where this is very possible and the impact this will have on unique table generation could be massive.

I did a quick experiment with Midjourney V4 today to see what it would output for a Giger style pinball table. I'm not very well versed with using it yet but it came back with this:

and some variations of the top right image.

Keep in mind that if you train the AI with some example tables it will produce results more along the lines of what you are after rather than fairly random generation like these ones. I did mention vintage cars in the prompt but it seemed to throw that out with the trash, not sure if I didn't word it correctly. Edit: actually it does appear that the object on top of the table bottom left may be some form of odd looking vintage car.

Thoughts?

Interesting idea, I had similar thoughts. One could export all the image files out from a table of interest, maybe replace their content to another style/theme with AI, and import back. Then manually change music and sounds, for example for chancing a rock table to an alternative band. Does anyone have experience on using AI tools for manipulating image files while preserving their technical characteristics (image size, file format, resolution)? The content in the DMD and other displays would stay of course, but maybe this would be tolerable considering the required efforts for the modification.

Certainly there will be more art packages and themes.

I have begun an original table idea that I've had for a long time and I've used

some generative AI for the art. The problem is you can sort of get lost in the

creative process because virtually anything is possible in the virtual sense. Imagine

a table that re-theme's itself? If I complete some sequence and the ball is captured

and all the playfield art changes, target functionality etc. Things you can't do for real

but would be cool to play. It reduces the time to create really nice art but keep in mind

though that a lot of AI generation currently is free. That will not be the case in the future.
