So I've been trying to rejuvenate my pinball music recording project, and after futzing around with a new version of PinMAME, I found the Altsound automatic recording system, which would be a lifesaver for me. However, I'm having an issue I have no real idea how to fix.

I started out with taf_l7 as my first project and ended up with the following workflow:

1) Boot up ROM, enter sound command mode.

2) Enter manual mode, fill out the command with zeroes (so 000000000000).

3) Hit F6 to start the automatic recording. After a few seconds, it automatically jumps up to 000000000001 and goes from there.

4) Leave it running.

However, there's a bit of an issue. I've attached two files to show this. auto_pops.wav was taken from a recording I had the automatic system do over night after I shut down pretty much everything that could be commanding resources. manual_nopop.wav is a manual recording (so with F5 instead of F6) I made just now with HD YouTube video running in the background and all my other programs running as normal. As you will note, the automatic one has these nasty pops that are incredibly noticeable. I've done three automatic recording runs of this ROM at this point, and this track has these pops in all of them.

At first I thought it was some sort of resource thing, which is why I did the third session with everything shut down so there couldn't possibly be a resource bottleneck. But that pretty clearly doesn't seem to be the case. At this point I can only wonder if it's something to do with the automatic system that causes this after some time recording? It seems to be more prevalent in later tracks (this track being 0018).

I guess my first question would be if this is reproducible for others? I'm not sure what could be causing this that is unique to my system if not.
