Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Here's “Hunter” - one of the tables produced by the short-lived O.D. Jenning’s pinball operation. This table is from a time when pinball tables were little more than gambling machines. But, since I’ve recreated the table in VPX, you don’t have to worry about spending all the grocery money trying to win one of the payouts.

This is my second recreation, after Ballyhoo (1932). I tried to do a more “from scratch” approach. But I inevitably relied on the visual pinball pioneers’ work that finds its way into any half decent table. I couldn’t even begin to name them all. I just hope they know that their invaluable contributions are appreciated. I also have to give credit to mfuegemann once again. While I tried to write the majority of the game’s code myself, I heavily relied on Ballyhoo, which was essentially a heavy MOD of their “Cavalcade” table.

Download includes the table, backglass, 2 wheels (one tarcisio one not), and an image to fill the DMD in popper.

NOTE: The backglass will appear to not fill the whole screen. This is by design, as the real backlgass/backbox was not shaped like modern ones. Also, the backlgass does NOT display your “score.” It’s ONLY to show your progress on the “payouts.” (Which also don’t actually do anything. That’s just for fun and to match the appearance of the real table). Please read the “Table Info” for instructions, keycodes, etc. (The "Table Info" menu is found inside of the actual VPX file. Lots of authors leave helpful/interesting info in there).

***1.07 Update: Thanks to Wylte for giving useful feedback that the pinball size could be adjusted to improve the gameplay. (And giving me specific values to change so I could make the changes and get right to play testing). I recommended everyone upgrade to 1.07, but if you prefer how 1.04 played, you're still free to download and play that version. Enjoy!***
***

I actually had a different version of this table up elsewhere in the past. It received a barrage of complaints/mentions issues requiring edits (some were valid, other commentators were simply showing their lack of reading comprehension). I took it down because I got fed up with repeatedly trying to fix a problem I wasn’t personally experiencing and was receiving little thanks for my efforts. I share tables to give back, not as a way to role-play as IT support. I’m re-sharing it here with the understanding that the table comes “as-is.” I have gone back and made some edits on my own, so hopefully the previous issues are gone. If not, you’re welcome to discuss any issues and workshop solutions in the support thread. I will update the table at my own discretion.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the table.

Hi Warbler33,
first of all, very thank you for sharing this nice "oldie".

From the Table Info:

0 balls per game (be sure to not let the ball *almost* get out of the shooter lane and then fall back down. The trigger that counts the number of balls per game is right below the gate and it counts every ball that rolls over - even if it fails to get out of the lane)

You can easily fix this issue just cloning the EnterPF trigger and placing it's clone named EnterPF001 just after the gate Gate001 and making the star-shaped marker touching the Gate001 tube from above.
The two triggers hit code should be changed as follows:
Dim BOT2, LBall, FINISHGAME, BallIsGoingOutFromShooterLane

Sub EnterPF_Hit
        BallIsGoingOutFromShooterLane = True
End Sub

Sub EnterPF001_Hit
        If BallIsGoingOutFromShooterLane = True Then
                BallIsGoingOutFromShooterLane = False
                BallsonBoard = BallsonBoard + 1
                If BallsonBoard >= 10 Then
                        If BallsonBoard = 10 then BallReleaseLocked = True
                        FINISHGAME = True
                Else
                        BallReleaseLocked = False
                End If
                CheckFinish
                Set LBall = ActiveBall
        EndIf
End Sub

Note that, putting aside the lines about the BallIsGoingOutFromShooterLane  boolean variable, the EnterPF001_Hit Sub is just a rewriting of your EnterPF_Hit code.

Thank you again for this table.

Have a great day.

Massimo

The table is pre-WWII, so no ROM.  I actually just started playing this game today.  Pressing 'A'  gets the game started. Then start or a flipper button should get the ball loaded.

This is a nice ancient table. Another pure skill shot game.  Always a nice mix up with other era pinball designs. Thanks for bringing this to life.

Ball games that are not pinball machines I find very intriguing and then the age of this game.

I lack the comparative possibilities ;)

But I think the table is very well implemented.

For a round in between the table is highly recommended

Many thanks for this
