File Name: JP's Star Trek LE (Stern 2013)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 17 Oct 2020

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Stern
Year: 2013
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the table by Stern from 2013.

Thanks to Carlos Guizzo for the images of the real Star Trek that I used for reference.
and to Thalamus for testing the table.

Table & graphics redrawn by me.

The playfield is a little more pink than red, just like the pictures from space.

The layout should be as close to the Stern table as I can make.

It includes the prototype vuk which sends the ball up to the ramp.

It uses the latest LE rom, st_162h, which can be downloaded from the Stern site.

I made this table just to see if I could make VPX to play just like in the video series HOW TO PLAY PINBALL by CRAIG PULLEN, as seen here:
https://www.homeleis...o-play-pinball/

First of all, thank you very much for the beautiful implementation.
However, the top right flipper doesn't work for me.
What am I doing wrong?

@johward : Very surprised to hear this as upper right flipper has worked flawlessly for the beta table that JPS has sent me since day one. I'll have to download this version to be 100% sure that we're talking about the same table, and that JPS hasn't changed anything to be sure. But, I would suggest right away that you do verify that you DON'T have ANY *.vbs files in tables folder. If you do, move them into scripts folder - overwriting any that may exists therre already. THEN, download the latests 10.7 beta - https://www.vpforums...=44135&p=448068 - extract ONLY the scripts that is included - overwrite all the scripts that you already have in your current install. This should be a safe operation. But, of course, taking a backup first, won't hurt ;)

If you want to test the newest code. Then rename the VPinballX.exe that is included to something like VPinballX7beta.exe or something. Then put ONLY the *.exe into VP. You will have to start that *.exe manually though, and load tables via File->Open if you want to test tables this way.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

No, I didn't have any VBS files in the desk folder.

But it works with the new scripts.

I would never have guessed, especially since there was no such error in the old version.

Thank you thalamus

Oh. Ok, happy to hear that you got it working - there must have been some old vbs file in your scripts folder then. And that probably also means, you've fixed several issues that you've had without knowing it. Just for a final check. Make sure that there is no *.vbs files in user (or is it users, can't remember) folder too. If there is, delete it.

Also here the upper flipper is not working, also replaced the scripts. but still no movement. (no vbs files present in tables folder, or user)

Tested the latest vpinballx7 beta but in that version also no upper flipper movement.

I guess you need a newer vpinmame. Flippers are controlled by the rom and vpinmame. The table works with VPX 10.6 and VP10.7. I used 10.7 to build the table, but only the layers name are the only thing special for 10.7.

So get the latest vpinamme from here https://www.vpforums...showtopic=27063 or from vpuniverse (search for sambuild)

I confirm. I downloaded VPinMAME33_beta.zip and overwritten the old files (although there was also version 3.3.0 in the details of the old VPinMAME.dll file, the files differed in date and size). Now the top right flipper works properly.

Nostronomo, on 17 Oct 2020 - 2:46 PM, said:

I nosed around in the code and found the solution that did work:

    If Keycode = RightFlipperKey then Controller.Switch(86) = 1:  Controller.Switch(82) = 1

And

    If Keycode = RightFlipperKey then Controller.Switch(86) = 0:  Controller.Switch(82) = 0

It should be switch 86 not 90

Cheers!

Great table and fun to play

Thx JP!

That is really weird. You see, I downloaded this exact copy to both my desktop machine and my cab. On the cab, it is working. On my desktop it was not, until I changed those switches. Guess I have to double check the cab. Might it be that I tested with the pre-release table ? I kind of hopeI did, because, that at least make some sense to me. :)

I can confirm this worked for me. I tried everything else to no avail and replacing the scripts from the new vpx 10.7 beta worked just great. Still running the 10.6 final with the new scripts from 10.7 beta btw

Thanks!

Thanks Vamp! I have changed the lines with the 86 and they still work on my computer :) And by looking at the manual they are 86 and not 90. I just use what others had used :) I guess the new scripts overwrote what I wrote in the script. But now it should be ok for new and old scripts :)

So I have reuploaded the table :)

Thanks, nice table!

The sw4 (top inlanes) in scripts is not assigned to the right ID, it should be switch number 4.
The ball stopped between the lower bumper and the ramp on the right, perhaps it can also happen in the real table.

Looking at Sterns site, I see the 162 rom..but not a 162h. Are they the same?
