File Name: Lethal Weapon 3 (Data East 1992) - EB Mod

File Submitter: EBisLit

File Submitted: 26 Jul 2020

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): EBisLit, Javier
Manufacturer: Data East
Year: 1992
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

This is an update/mod to Javier1515's table. Props to Sheltemke for a major update.

v1.01
HUGE thanks to Sheltemke for polishing up a lot of the rough edges. These are all his updates:

  • A lot of new cleaned-up inserts
  • darkened apron
  • fastflips script change
  • changed flipper sounds
  • repaint/redraw (trains, dynamites,helicopter)

The table also has that nice professional touch with the Nunizzu Ball Shadow.. thanks for adding this BrandonLaw.

Lastly I added a couple small touch-ups on the plastics in this update as well.

v1.0
The main update is a new playfield scan, but lots of other new items were added as well:
  • New playfield scan, stitch, cleanup & redraw
  • New hi-res images of plastics, decals and apron assets
  • realignment of playfield mechs, inserts, etc
  • Physics tweaks (based on youtube gameplay vids)
  • lighting updates

...ok, ok ok!

Thanks STAT - I took on this LW3 project almost entirely because I was excited to get a solid reference table for MJ.  I've got something in the works and its coming along nicely so far!.. I don't think i can ever get it perfect, but hoping to hand off a decent fun "true to production" version in the near future.

Very nice upgrade!!  As I've done on a few tables, tried to add a ballshadow to no avail.  I'm usually pretty good with that stuff, but I'd really like it on this table...anyone want to DM me with a quick assist or let me know what I'm missing?  I get everything added...shawdow image, TNOBs set...table name squared away, but still always gives me a ballshadow1 = undefined.  Drives me nuts.

have you forgotten to import the ballshadows  maybe ?

Edited by Thalamus, 28 July 2020 - 11:08 AM.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Ahh...may be it.  Can't have just the 'ballshadow'...need to have ballshadow1,2,3 as images don't I?

Hmm...BallShadow1 still not defined.  Pic attached:

Did you import the primitives (or possibly flashers)  you would need 5 in this case.  Ballshadow1, Ballshadow2,...  Ballshadow5.  I always stack mine up down on the apron somewhere.

Ha!  Didn't know this was a thing for shadows!  Let me pop open a table and see if I can catch these 'flashers.'

We are very close.  No errors, but just no actual shadow on the ball...  Something simple, I know it.

Timer on and enabled?  Also you are missing a material for shadows.

After posting I did realize I needed a material, exported from another table, and loaded up, but did not make sure a timer was enabled.  Looking, not sure other than the open () in the cut/paste code there would be another timer let alone enabled.  Care to point me in the direction of enabling the proper timer?

GOT IT!! Thanks @cyberpez and @Thalmus.  That lil' old timer needed to be imported.  I'm surprised the code didn't flag it as not being present!  Finally learned how to do a ball shadow....I have some tables to update :)  AO isn't good enough on some of them for me so I need the extra dark, scripted shadow for my eye.

There will be 1.01 soon(lot of new inserts what needed to be changed, darkened apron, fastflips script change, changed flipper sounds, some repaint(trains, dynamites, heli)) so if you think/want contact EbisLit and add Ballshadow before he update/upload.

please let me know if you wan to replace your current table with a semi rebuild

I have no plans of uploading this I don't wan to see multiple tables uploaded

I got Rascals MJ rebuild and downloaded allot of LW3 tear-down  pics

https://pinside.com/...eapon-3/gallery

https://www.ipdb.org...ine.cgi?id=1433

and started to rebuild the table,  so that it matches the real table

Attached File  Capture.PNG   55.56KB   3 downloads

I replaced allot of components ,  most of the objects around the bumpers got a full rebuild.

most of the pegs where replaced with Data East black rubber pegs

I converted a few objects that where built with walls into primitives

the clear plastic with the cat decal was  rebuilt and added to the table.

their where multiple missing lights

their where allot of Solenoid Controlled lights missing or mapped to the wrong solenoid.

the Domes primitives did not match the domes in the real table

I replaced them  with more accurate prims and added FLuppers Domes.

added Darks Data East apron prim

TO DO

we need someone with access to the real machine

sw52 needs!!!!!!   to be confirmed  the Service manual  does not have it

at the moment its a hidden trigger next tot the lower bumper

some of the VP9 tables had them behind the drop targets,  but I confirmed

that they don't belong their

Ramps need to be reshaped to match the prim wire ramps

I replaced the Bumper cap prim with Zanys  models

given that he has a better quality texture

but it turns out that Javier had the correct prim  but the wrong texture.

we need a correct texture for Javiers  prim  (  I added the correct bumper decal to the current texture)

full testing,  I did a complete code and physical objects that interact with the wall

we need to see if their are any bugs,

I like the accelleration on this table being redone.  I hadn't played it until now and it's real fun.  The Pup pack, and colored rom really make this a fast and fun table.  Keep up the good work, Gents!

I'm blown away at how awesome this community is!! Less than a week after release and already getting a lot of really nice updates from Sheltemke & great "royal treatment" tweaks from BrandonLaw... and just as I'm finishing the merge of those two upgrades, I see this epic post by 32assassin!

I'll release the current changes as a 1.01 and it would then be amazing to merge all your updates in as well, 32.  It sounds like a lot of work was already completed, so if you don't feel like porting all of it into this newest deployment, let me know and (if you're willing to share your changes) I can do my best to merge all the mentioned updates in.

Thanks all for making this into such a fun table.

My help is nothing comparing what you done. You bought Playfields/Plastics for US (community) and only for a scan. Not for a pinball machines, only for VPX. Same with other playfields. You are amazing....!!!!

@sw52

For me it is not used, from the part code it should be a simple contact placed behind a rubber,

I do not find a location where this contact can be installed,

I have not tried much but by closing and opening this contact nothing happens, it does not add 10 points as says the manual.

But who knows ...
