File Name: Bally Hoo

File Submitter: Albert

File Submitted: 13 Mar 2020

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): Kees
Albert
Loserman76
Strobeman
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1969
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is an overhaul of Kees‘ „Bally Hoo“ (Bally [Who else? I can‘t imagine a name like „Gottlieb Hoo“ or „Williams Hoo“], 1969)

Changes:

Saucers now with animated kick arms.

Changed the kick angles of the saucers.

The shooter lane gate has a new primitive cover.

New GI for for some ball reflections.

Mushroom bumper is now animated.

Rollover wires are now animated. (The wires on the playfield graphic were spottet out.)

Added two rollover wires (kicker lane and outlane kickback).

Changed bumper caps.

Added a metal guide under the left saucer.

Added sound effects.

And a few other corrections (in a tilted game, now the ball will be kicked out of the saucers; missing bonus advances added etc.)

Thanks again to Kees, who made a great re-creation of this „game brilliant in eye-impact“, with „sizzling action“, „suspenseful repeat-play appeal“ and... „Double KICK-BACK Lanes“, „New SURPRISE FREE BALL Light“, „Double KICK-OUT BONUS Holes“, „New PLAY-MORE Post“ and, not to forget: „New JUMBO FLIPPERS – Longer. Heftier. Clad with flat rubber. Add oomph to flip action“. (All quotations from the flyer.)

For once, the advertising was appropriate.

The game comes with a modified Backglass with blink lamps.

Notes:
If you don‘t use a backglass, modify line 24.
If you want a 5 balls game, modify line 804 this way: if bip>5 then

Loserman76 and I did a few changes.

Changes by Loserman76:

New hit height of the rubbers to prevent weird ball movements.

Plastics are now non-collidable to prevent that the ball slows down.
Playfield mesh added (for a more realistic ball behaviour around the kicker holes).
Added balls per game adjustment (right magnasave key).
Added replay score settings adjustment (left magnasave key).

Changed by me:

The pop up post is now animated.

Nothing is so good it can't be made better...

The bad quality graphics were always a weak point on this game.

Strobeman did a phantastic job by re-painting the playfield and the plastics. Now this game shines in a never before seen quality.

He also did a few other changes. See the download page for details.

Does this table require a newer VP version than 10.6.0?

The reason I'm asking is that during play, more and more textures start to disappear until the ball and other elements of the table are (nearly) invisible.

This is in desktop mode with B2S set to "false".

I suspect what the reason for this strange effect could be. I'll look into the matter and will get back to you.

Sorry, I should have caught this earlier; the reason for the disappearing textures was that the table is set to 4x SSAA = "On" as standard.

For some reason this causes issues on my graphics card setup (on other tables as well).

When I set this function to "Default" or "Off" the problem disappears.

What graphics card do you have?
It would be nice if you could run the brute force 4x FSAA, makes the tables look really nice.

Maybe someone has the same card and knows some good settings or drivers etc

It appears to have been a bug in an older (2020) AMD Adrenalin graphics card driver I had installed; I've upgraded to 21.4.1 and the issue now looks to be resolved.

I'll probably only be using SSAA on tables that really 'need' it (mostly '90s and later designs with diagonal habitrails), as I want to avoid any chance of anti-aliasing blur.

Thanks for the assistance, Albert and wiesshund.

Notes:
If you don‘t use a backglass, modify line 24.
If you want a 5 balls game, modify line 804 this way: if bip>5 then

You can change between a 3 or 5 ball game by pressing the right magnasave button (and the number of points needed for a replay with the left magnasave).

There's nothing on line 804 in the current script.

For video driver, I have a profile for VPX with driver instigated anti aliasing of all forms off (morphalogical sucks on VPX)
because the driver does not do it right for VPX

In VPX, i have brute force 4X on but the other 2 options off, cause they do seem to blur things, and i dont like that much
end result is this though, i also have force anisotropic on

Great table.  Looks and plays very nice.  I noticed that there's a credit in the script 'DOF by arngrim' but my version of the table doesn't appear to support DOF.  Am I missing something.  Thanks.
