File Name: Al Capone (LTD do Brasil 1984)

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 29 Dec 2019

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Other - Pinball
Year: 1984
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is Al Capone by LTD do Brasil.

Resources have been hard to find and I had to redraw the playfield and plastics. Thanks go to CARLOSGUIZZO and João Pedras for providing the images for the redraw.

Al Capone is a clone of Bally's Speakeasy but without the mechanical Roulette Wheel. The remaining rules are quite similiar with subtle changes.

Gaston added some changes for better sound playback into VPinMAME versione 3.3. Other than this there are no obvious problems using the current VPinMAME version.

At the top of the script You have the option to adjust the sound volume and GI brightness, set FreePlay and add a center post between the Flippers.
You can display the number of "Balls To Play" on the apron too, if You want to use a static backglass.
I do love the return lanes made of rubber bands. They behave really unpredictable.
Two funny facts about the Sacrifice Button:
- You have the option to reset top cards out of order even after the last ball. This will do no good but will cost You 25.000 points anyway.
- If You have lit cards "5" to "8" out of order, You can use the Sacrifice Button to relight the "Sequence" light without resetting any card.
Have fun
Michael

Two questions:

Can i change the game to a 3 ball game?

Can something be done about the "muddy" look of the targets? I disabled the shadows in this area, but to no avail. It's not the low quality graphics either, because i did new graphics but they still look the same.

Hi Albert,

the LTD games have no DIP switch menu, so no 3/5 ball adjustment. For the card targets I used images of the real targets, without redrawing. If You replace the images, the look should become "sharper".

Maybe You have to switch the material too or adjust the bumperlights with a height of 50/100 units to not cross the targets.

Thank you for the informations.

As i wrote before, i did replace the graphics, but with no effect. Bumper lights and material changes also had no effect.

It's a strange phenomenon!

Anyway, this doesn't distract much from the fun i have with this game. A fine piece of work!

After a little more experimenting i found the solution: For the five primitives (P0001-P0005) change "Disable Lighting" to 0,8.

To compensate for the now too-bright images, lower the brightness of the graphics in some graphics software for about 50 %.

Hi Albert,

nice suggestion. For me a disable lighting value of 0,25 is working well without the need to change the images.

Here are my two wheels for this table.
mega.nz/#F!IFsxBbCD!04cfuNEJi5hwuYxL6CvQIg
Or download them directly from the PinUp Popper mediadatabase.

The wheels are reduced in quality, because of the very small uploadsize here.

Thanks @mfuegemann for this rare gem :)

I have just doffed the table, there is a script update needed in order to have force feedback for the flippers

'-------------------------------
'------  Keybord Handler  ------
'-------------------------------
Sub AlCapone_KeyDown(ByVal keycode)
...
If keycode = LeftFlipperKey Then
if LocalFastFlips then
if flipperactive then
LeftFlipper.RotateToEnd
PlaySound SoundFXDOF("fx_flipperup",101,DOFOn,DOFFlippers), 0, .67, AudioPan(LeftFlipper), 0.05,0,0,1,AudioFade(LeftFlipper)
end if
exit sub
end if
End If

If keycode = RightFlipperKey Then
if LocalFastFlips then
if flipperactive then
RightFlipper.RotateToEnd
PlaySound SoundFXDOF("fx_flipperup",102,DOFOn,DOFFlippers), 0, .67, AudioPan(RightFlipper), 0.05,0,0,1,AudioFade(RightFlipper)
end if
exit sub
end if
End If
...
End Sub

Sub AlCapone_KeyUp(ByVal keycode)
...
If keycode = LeftFlipperKey Then
if LocalFastFlips then
LeftFlipper.RotateToStart
if flipperactive then
PlaySound SoundFXDOF("fx_flipperdown",101,DOFOff,DOFFlippers), 0, 1, AudioPan(LeftFlipper), 0.05,0,0,1,AudioFade(LeftFlipper)
end if
exit sub
end if
End If

If keycode = RightFlipperKey Then
if LocalFastFlips then
RightFlipper.RotateToStart
if flipperactive then
PlaySound SoundFXDOF("fx_flipperdown",102,DOFOff,DOFFlippers), 0, 1, AudioPan(RightFlipper), 0.05,0,0,1,AudioFade(RightFlipper)
end if
exit sub
end if
End If
...

how do you change the coin to button 3.  I looked in the script but cant find it

You dont do it in the script, if you need to change that, do it globally in VPMkey.vbs

Set what ever key you are using as coin 1

Most LTD machines do not recognize coin slot 3, some do not even recognize coin slot 2

And i just noticed this release

Good!
Now i can stop trying to draw the damned playfield, cause it keeps coming out ugly as hell.

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

Spend it on Hookers and Blow

Have fun
