On this version and my previous version of this table I have trouble getting the ball to move properly into the plunger lane.  The table kicks the ball into the lane and then it falls off to the left and becomes lost.  Any clues as to what I may have set wrong?

Thanks for the upgrade of the graphics.

Thanks,

Lane

I've noticed that some tables (including the built-in VPX templates!) use a two direction gate feeding the plunger lane, and if you nudge the table, the ball can bounce back in and be "lost". I actually figured it out with testing of my personal template. The gate feeding the plunger lane should be single direction (the ball can pass into the plunger lane, and the gate keeps it from passing back).

And for gods sake - when you use the one direction gate. Make it invisible afterwards.

It just hate so much seeing tables where this is left seen. There is NO games that has this installed, at least that I know of. Understanding why it is there though.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

I think this is exactly what I am experiencing.  It became more pronounced when I installed my contactors.  The contactor is firing the same time the ball is moving and causing the ball to "jiggle" back into the gate and disappear. It seems to be the Data East tables where this is occuring.

Is there any way a guy like myself can change the type of gate on the tables where it occurs?  I am reasonably good at reading the table codes and adding suggested changes but I have never deconstructed or constructed a table.

It's an object on the playfield, not in the script, positioned right against the plunger lane, at the end of the path leading from the drain to the plunger. It also might not actually be present, depending on the table. It might literally have gate in the name. But once you select it, it's trivial to change the directional... and if it's missing, you can even add it easily.

I have done some more experimenting this evening.  It is only the Data East tables that are having lost balls when they enter the plunger lane.  Jurassic Park actually said "two lost balls" on the DMD after multiball.  Guns N Roses and Rocky and Bullwinkle are having the same issues.  I am sure that since others aren't mentioning it on the support threads I must be causing it with the contactors when the ball ejects into the plunger lane.

I experimented with the nudge settings in my VirtuPin settings.  I also experimented with the Max x,y and Gain x,y in the VPX 10.6 nudge settings.  Using the nudge calibration table I have wound up with a considerable bump required to make the balls twitch.  But when you fire the back four contactors using the coin button in the nudge table the balls still do a side jump that is quite noticeable.  When DOF senses a ball put in play on my Data East tables it fires all of the back contactors I believe.  This is what is causing the ball to jump and roll back into the drain area and be lost to the plunger.

I am thinking about mounting my VirtuPin accelerometer board on a foam rubber gasket to isolate it from the "thump" of the contactors.  Has anyone else had to use this technique?

If I could minimize the propagation of the contactor vibration to the accelerometer then I could turn my nudge sensitivity back up to a reasonable level so the balls in play can be nudged without banging on the cabinet so hard. The cabinet itself is well built with 3/4" cabinet grade birch glued together.  The accelerometer is mounted on a crossmember "shelf" that is just in front of the coin door.  I think this heavy cabinet transmits the contactor thumps efficiently to the accelerometer.

At the moment i have X and Y Max set at 100 and x,y Gain set at 150.  VirtuaPin nudge sensitivity and LED sensitivity are both set at 4500 (excluding this issue I like 2000 on this setting for comfortable nudging).

Any suggestions appreciated.

Lane

Yes. My accelerometer is "protected", as good as I was able to. Should be a thread here in the forums, started by wrd1972 explaining what he did and I kind of copied his method.

Thanks for the lead. The gel isolator is no longer available. I did order a vibration isolator made of layers of foam and rubber. I now know what I need to do!
