I've installed Visual Pinball 9.9.2 some time ago, and I also got the Mr. Black recreated table for the program. Unfortunately, the sound doesn't work properly. All of the sounds are either the same beeping sound cutting in and out repeatedly or a very long sustained beep. I've tried running Visual Pinball 9.9.2 as an administrator, that changed the sounds a little bit but that still doesn't work. I've had this problem for both the main ROM set and the alternative one.

Can anybody help me out with this sound problem?

I believe the sound issue is due to the fact that a successful dump of the sound chip for this table was never obtained.  IIRC this has been an ongoing issue for a long time.

That shouldn't be right. I remember a video from youtube that showed a fully working alternative ROM with sounds different from the original table.

Here is a working MrBlack ROM with working sounds.

(When I say working, I mean it sounds better than the one with long beeps.)

It is different than the ROM available at IPDB.

I added as attachment. Download and copy to your roms folder located where Visual Pinball is installed.

Attached File  mrblack.zip   14.67KB   8 downloads

Make sure you have the latest VPinMAME installed.

Find newest VPinMAME v2.9 here...http://www.vpforums....&showfile=11571

You may get several error messages, just click them off, and table will play with better sounds.

This table is similiar to Defender layout. Maybe could convert the VPX Defender table into VPX Mr. Black table!!

I believe I have VPinMAME Version 2.7. One of the text documents say that it works with everything made by Taito. Do I really need to get a newer version?

You may not for that table, I am not really sure though.

Upgrading your PinMAME is really easy.

Simply download the VPinMAME29_Minimal.zip from link, and copy all the contents into your Visual Pinball folder. Overwrite files when it asks.

After you have copied everything over,

Then you start your PinMAME program by double clicking Setup.exe. (Should be in same folder where you just copied everything to.)

Then click install. Voila. You now have upgraded PinMAME and will be able to play tables that have been fixed to use the newer PinMAME.

You may need to also check to make sure your paths to roms is still same.

You can try playing the table with the new rom without upgrading, and see if it works. I am not sure, but it is a good idea to upgrade to at least 2.8 as there were new features added, and much more!!

All right. I downloaded the ROM you gave me, and the table seems to work very well now.

I do have another question, though: Is there a way to change settings of a table (Balls per game, score requirement for Replay, Ball Saver duration, etc.)?

Not sure what other adjustments are available for Taito tables.  If you can find a manual for the table maybe that will give you an idea using the above tutorials as a guide.
