I have had fairly good luck with changing the ball image to the "aluminum" option.  It makes the ball stand out more on the play field.

For me the ball is also too dark for my old eyes like in many other tables.
So I change always the ball to the chromeball 18, which jpsalas post in a thread.

Dark ball is cool on some tables but not this one, it's too dark for this table.

It's original file "ball_HDR.hdr" but i've changed levels so high that ball is shining very nice.

The table should use 2 different ball images..  One is for a standard ball, and the other darker ball is for the marbled balls.  It should swap them back and forth depending on the ball option you choose.  If not we'll get it fixed up..  nudge nudge... :pokey:

The Image Manager has 3 pinball images.
“pinball” is the lightest, “ball_HDR” is the darkest, & “Chrome_Ball_29” is somewhere in the middle of the other two.

The Properties > Table > Ball > Ball image shows “pinball” by default.

Changing this to “ball_HDR” or “Chrome_Ball_29” does not seem so make any difference.

Selecting Marbled Ball from the Table Options Menu appears to display the same marbled ball no matter which image I select in Properties.

IOW the Standard Ball looks the same no matter which ball image I use from the Image Manager, and the Marbled Ball looks the same no matter which ball image is used. At least that's what it looks like on my monitor.

What am I doing wrong?

I don't think your doing anything wrong. Wrd1972 can probably elaborate, but I believe it has to do with the light and env. settings.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Brer Frog, you need to Reimport ball_HDR.hdr (replace it with brighter one) and in Menu > Ball you should choose <None>

Thanks -

I imported another ball image & renamed it ball_HDR and it worked & was brighter..

However it does not seem to matter whether I select “none”, “pinball”, “ball_HDR”, or “Chrome_Ball_29”. What does selecting Ball Image in Properties supposed to do?

Also the original ball_HDR image was 256x256. The new one I used is 128x128, but after it’s Imported into Image Manager it shows up as “0x8192”. Why the heck did it change & still work? Was I supposed to re-scale it to 256x256?

I will ask Cyberpez to look at this. I will bet it is something related to the marbled ball option. We will have a brighter ball for the upcoming release which will likely be no later than this weekend.

Hey guys if you dont like dark balls try that. I did it in Funhouse, Dr Dude, and on almost all my favourite VPX tables. Change an environment image to http://www.filedropp...ment3blur4kopie (you can also import that image from Knorr's Red and Ted's Road Show table, its named "Kugelspiegelung3"). and change the ball for one of them (I was looking for perfect ball and someday I found it):

 pinball.pngpinball1.pngpinball2.pngpinball3.pngpinball4.pngpinball5.pngpinball6.png

For Funhouse I personaly use ball number 4 (pinball3.png), Environment Emis. Scale - 8 and thr first line on Night->Day option. I promise you will like it. On some envirnoment images no matter what you do the ball will not be shiny but with that envirnoment and ball it will be really shiny. When you feel that GI reflection on the ball is too strong/weak you can change Default Bulb Intensity Scall in Ball options. I hope some of you will like it :)

You will have to re-import over the top of the old ball image.  The way we set it up is it's all coded..  so choose default option it uses the ball_HDR ball image, choose the marbled ball it uses the Chrome_Ball_29 ball image.  The editor settings gets overwritten when the options are set at table startup.

So if you want a lighter default ball re-import over the top of ball_HDR in the image manager.  You would have to try different ball images for the Marbled balls..  I tried quite a few to get the marbled effect right..  lighter balls seemed to wash it out quite a bit.

I'm using the latest Funhouse "vers e" that was posted in message #53. It's default Ball Image is "pinball". And there is a "pinball" image in the Image Manager.

At this point I'm presuming "pinball" should not be there?

Here is my latest release candidate for FH:

Funhouse (Williams 1990)_1.2e

https://www.dropbox....)_1.2e.vpx?dl=0

Changes:

  • Fixed the lock area ball stick issue
  • Brighter ball
  • New Flipper physics (now a bit easier to hit Rudy and the trap door).
  • Few minor physics tweaks.
  • FS view XY rotation now set to 0...instead of 270. This can be expected on all of my release going forward.

If you guys wanna give it a go and comment. I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Thanks

I've not looked as yet, but I assume that we will need to reset the DMD rotation in the script also?

I understand why you set the FS view XY rotation to 0. But simply changing it to 270 does not make the playfield look correct. I'll end up playing around with the settings & still not get it to look right. Hopefully someone with an eye for this can chime in & recommend some settings,

I don't think I've had to worry about dmd rotation since I got rid of all my vp9 tables.  Pretty much everything out new does not specify that in the script, and although most tables I have to rotate to 0 and adjust I don't think I've had a dmd be sideways.

Yes unfortunately it does not directly translate.  My recipe is start with the XY rotation to whatever way you need it, switch the x-scale and y-scale values around, 0 out the x and y offsets, then fire up the camera tool and work from there.  Of course that is going from 270 to 0 rotation, and for some reason landscape tables often have a large offset that I don't need on portrait, maybe just a small one.

That setting is very easy to tweak in the script. Plus I could make a user friendly "switch" at the top of the script.

Me...do a DMD table! :)

Im obsessed with Alpha Numeric tables cant you tell. ;)
