Hey all

i was just thinking about this the other day and was wondering if there were any machines out there that have fantastic gameplay but would really benefit from alternate artwork/backglass etc.

Personally, i was playing Flash the other day and love the gameplay, but really dislike the artwork (Constantino Mitchell is a bit of an acquired taste... ) Personally, i think it would be really cool to have the same table layout but to have a different artset/backglass... would have been great to see what someone like John Youssi would have done with the theme.

Any tables out there that are in the "love the gameplay...but a bit of an eyesore" category?

thanks for the link, but i didn't mean so much as a vp playfield redraw but what *real world* tables would have benefited from the project being managed by a different artist with a different vision from the original. For example, consider what a table like Guns n roses would have looked like if done with a more modern ACDC sort of playfield art (and plastics...the snake is a bit of an eyesore IMO), or conversely if some of the more modern photoshop rendered stern tables like the avengers would have been hand drawn by marvel comics.

I guess the cool thing is that if we collectively wanted to redo any artwork, we could easily in VP :D

I owned a Flash, artwork is not for everyone.  I donated it to faralos, who is trying to refinish it.  I like the alternate flash table available here much better than the original.  Also the VPx Monopoly WOW is incredible from JPSalas, but what do you expect from the Great One.

Practically all Sterns based on movie licenses. I know Licensees can be strict about how their licenses are portrayed, but those photoshopped floating heads always look so terrible.

Hard Body comes to mind (although there is already BMX)..

And Radical.. Great great gameplay (except for that randomized million shot madness) but the design burns your eyes.. ;)

Also Wheel of Fortune or World Poker Tour.. Maybe even Sopranos..

Dirty Harry, too, maybe..

Police Force. Great gameplay but hell...

From IPDB:
This game was planned to be a 'Batman' license...the police car was to be the Batmobile and the Jail was to be the Bat Cave. Designer Mark Ritchie stated that the art has to be changed at the last minute because Data East, a competitor, already had the license for Data East's 1991 'Batman'.
