Problems after installing PinballX

Best Answer NextoPin , 07 April 2014 - 03:08 PM

OK, I think I got this resolved, mostly.

Some of it was due to my setup. I have a 40 inch TV that I use for my PC and Xbox so sometimes it's a computer monitor and other times, it's a disconnected device in Windows 7.

This is just a guess at what happened but, It appears that Unit3d pinball was going fullscreen on the singe monitor (40in TV) even though it was in a disconnected state. I discovered it when I swapped a DVI monitor out for a VGA monitor, this caused all the display's to get renumbered and both the backglass and the playfield were being displayed on a single monitor. I rearranged the displays and cab mode is working for me again.

Also, after I reinstalled Unit3d into a new folder, the expander.exe needed to be unblocked in it's properties.

The only other issue I'm having is some of the tables will load but not start. I think this has something to do with the DMD as both the tables that won't run are missing the DMD. I will look into these some more and let you know. This may be due to the 3rd monitor issue, I noticed them late last night so I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot them yet.

After installing PinballX I was getting some errors trying to launch UNIT3D. I was messing around with alot of files, it's possible I screwed something up, so I created a Games Directory and Reinstalled UNIT3D and Pinmame with the latest versions.

Now I'm getting the issue described here. http://www.gameex.in...lx/#entry119256

If I change the camera mode to standard, I can see the table, I can also see in stereo mode but when I goto Cabinet view I get a black screen. I can see the handles in the cabinet editor but just a black box. Real vs Fake fullscreen doesn't affect it.

Hi. As I said on gameex, I tried and have the same bug. We need to work with Tom on this, but he can't manage to run UP on windows 8. I will ask him to create a new post here with logs, etc...

Hi guys, Tom here.

Its win 8.1 not 8 just so you know.

I did look first (maybe you should create a pinned topic) but sorry if I missed it ---

Could you just please just confirm what files you need, eg. logs etc and I will take a look.

Cheers.

Tom.

PS: Not looking for glory but I sent you guys a nice donation to the project. I know myself these are few and far between so folks please show your support. This is a BIG project in the digital pinball world.

I'm on windows 7.

Last night I was able to start in desktop mode and switch to Cabinet mode and it was working, I could calibrate the cab view and everything appeared normal. I saved my settings and when I restarted Unit3d, I got the black screen again, but I was able to switch back to desktop mode and could see everything running, but switching back to cabinet mode I got the black screen again.

Right before I got it working that 1 time, I was moving my monitor arrangement around in Windows OS.

I've tried re-installing Unit3d and overwrote all the files and that didn't fix it. I tried deleting the installed folder and reinstalled to a new folder with a different path and that also didn't fix it. I've seen the same thing happen to my friends cab.

Has anyone found a fix? How can I help?

EDIT: I just went back and reread the thread on the PinballX forum.

Just to be clear, I am having this problem just launching the table by clicking on the table file, I am not using the PinballX front end when I am having this issue.

Maybe a long shot, but do you have the latest video drivers for your card?  Have you tried different ones?

I do have the latest drivers. It was all working fine until I installed PinballX (which I LOVE BTW). PinballX seems to be working fine in VP and FP, I installed the XML files for UP into the PinballX directory and I see them in the menu editor and on the selector.

If I try to launch UP itself I get an error in french and it no longer launches the Open Table dialog. If I launch from an associated .upt file it will open the table, but it cannot be seen in cabinet mode, only desktop and oculis rift mode.

It appears (need to test again) that if I choose cabinet mode, save options and restart UP then cabinet mode will come up until I switch to another mode. If I try to switch back to cab mode, I get the black screen. If I press calibrate cab, I can see the red targets but that's it.

EDIT: One thing I noticed on my friends cab(need to test on mine) is that now when I click on a .vpt file I get an error about visualpinball not being a valid win32 application, but if I launch from within the VP editor or PinballX it launches fine. This may or may not be related, but I recall that working at one point, and about the same time I started having the UP issues I started getting that error.

Well lets do it step by step. First, UP in cab mode, standalone.

What do you see when you launch UP, choose a table, then click on "Cabinet cam" then "Calibrate Cab"?

If you can't see at least red targets, then your Config/CabCalibration.xml is corrupted => delete it and restart...

As I posted above, I'm ok with cab mode now, just a couple of the tables load but won't start and don't have the DMD like SS and I think Indy. It's likely due to my 3rd monitor. I didn't have time to test last night, I'll try again tonight.
