How come i get stuck flippers all the time on some rare tables

I am on rev 600 right now and just a moment ago i tried cosmic gunfight 1.1.1 FS (perfect fun btw) and flipper get stuck in the up position

anybody know why this is happening ?

when filppers get stuck you can free them again by pressing the flipper button

but this makes the table nearly impossible to play

:(

it is a strange problem

tried the table with 9.15 works

back on rev600 ... works

WTH ? i can't reproduce this error

but it comes from time to time

This happened to me when I installed a db2s for Road Show. I removed the b2s and all was fine.

never heard of this one yet even after three years of building pins!

umj is it a vp9 table maybe it was made with vp8

and you are trying to play it with the wrong vp editor

vp8 and vp9 pins for the most part ain't compatible

that is if it's made with vp8 play it in vp8

same goes for any vp9 pins

is it a rom based table by any chance?

if so the problem may lie inside the rom itself and not be fixable

but again I never heard of a flipper sticking on any vp pin

anyone?

@yamgruel ... thinking about what you wrote .... I first played without backglass (no prob), then added B2s and had the stuck flippers .... so we have kind of the same error

atm it is all ok but how does directb2s and stuck flippers come together

how did you fix this ? stay away from B2S ? :D

I had this problem as well. My fix was to make sure the tables B2S screen was running in exe mode.

I've not had any stuck flippers, so I can't help you, but I am curious about "make sure the tables B2S screen was running in exe mode." Still trying to learn all about this---how would I "make sure"?

@darquayle -> well b2s is running in exe mode as default ...

@bob -> right click on running b2s backglass - brings up a menu

I've had a lot of issues with stuck flippers as well... but what I've found is that it's only on the first time I play the table.  If I start a game and the flipper stick, I exit out, start it up again and every time, the problem has been solved.  I've noticed it most on 80's Bally/Stern games but not always.  And oddly enough, on Uncle Willy tables but not always.

I have had this as well, but I think it is a memory issue.  I usually get it when I am testing or setting up tables with the editor. When I load a table, play it, close it and then load another. When I get  the problem I just shut down VP and load it and the table, everything works after that.

I started using directB2S backglasses a few days ago and found this thread when searching for my problem. It was exact same issue, almost all tables work fine with good performance but when using directb2s backglasses flippers stuck. Just start a game like T2CE and do not launch ball - the flippers should react when pressing buttons then. Press flipper button repeatedly and you will recognize that on some button presses there seems to be no reaction. During playing the table it sometime occurs that flipper stucks in upper position. What is funny: it seems to occur much more often with left flipper than with right flipper (maybe related to earth rotation and different in southern hemisphere ;-)).

What solved it for me is really silly and was written above: Remove security block of Win7 from B2Server.exe file and allow execution. I can't imagine how this could effect performance, I would expect this to completely block execution or not, but not execute it slowly ?!

I tested with NBA Fastbreak and T2CE and no more stutters or hangs of flippers now.

After experimenting for almost 8 months with VP I learned one again and again: Follow any instructions available absolute exactly - Letting out a point even if it seems to be totally crazy and working without it somehow could cause you to spend a huge amount of time to find out later what you have missed.

I had this same problem exactly!  even with the left flipper acting up more than the right.  I'm just setting up my system now and went with B2S right off the bat, so wasnt able to see that that is what made a difference.  I think I fixed it by setting the b2sserver.exe to windows NT 4.0 compatibuility mode (like the VPin installation guide suggests for the vpin.exe).  Its hard to tell though, because sometimes it works fine and just shows up once in a while...

I'm running on TInyXP

edit: just installed Big Bang Bar fs 2.0 and it was having the stuck/unresponsive flipper problem.  Ill try turning up the frame skip options on the b2s and see if that helps any.

I had the same issue with the Sopranos. In addition when starting the table I received the message that graphics and sound might not be in sync.

The following helped (no idea why though ...):

I use b2s to show the backglass, but within the b2s setup menue (right klick on backglass brings it up) I disabled DMD. (on my 2 monitor setup, DMD is shown in the backglass, but pinmame is responsible for creating that ...)

From the DMD menue (right klick on DMD) I selected cabinet mode.

Had to restart VP ... from then on both flippers worked flawless .... and the error message about the sync problems is gone, too.

Cheers,

Schwabinger

Selecting Cabinet Mode from the DMD menu fixed the problem for me too (At the time, I was using non-cabinet Pinmame because the cabinet version was crashing on startup). I didn't do anything with the b2s setup menu.

This has happened to me a couple of times on newly added table. What fixed it for me was closing Visual pinball editor and reload table. The problem did not occur on the table I had the problem with.

symptoms I had
Stuck flipper some times
Push flipper button some times The flipper didn't move

Wondering if anyone was having this issue still, my system ran great, I added a pindmdv3 and playing AFM and it seems mostly rom based games I also would get flippers sticking.  I was able to unplug the usb cable to the controller and it would reset and work, but after a while the flippers would stick again, I found a thread somewhere that said something about unplugging the plunger and sure enough the the system works fine as long as the plunger isn't connected, at first I thought with the pindmd added I may have been getting an overload on the usb, has anyone else seen this, I am running win 7 pro on a quad core with 7 series nvidia card and 16 gigs memory, I think my plunger is a v2 virtuapin.

Had this issue with a couple of tables and was able to fix them all by right clicking the actual .directb2s file the problem table and unblocking the file from a known source.
