Hi Folks,
I have yet to track down and play a 2008 Indiana Jones machine. I really like the old pinball adventure machine. If you had to choose between these two machines in perfect condition, which would you choose and why? I guess I'm trying to find out if the game play is better, game modes, shots, etc. from folks that have actually played the machine. Did they include anything from the old machine on the new, i.e; Eternal Life multiball?
Thanks, and remember - Choose wisely!

I like the older Williams version better. The new game doesn't have a lot of challenging shots. The ark is a large target and the 8 ball multiball is a little excessive in my eyes but that's just me.
I like the original better. The new one has "Hit the ramp 80 times" which just doesn't seem like fun - seems more like 'work' to me.
Build a fire, vipers love the heat.

I couldn't choose between the both if I had to..
The 'old' is unbeatable in 'fun-to-play', the new one in it's '8 multiball madness'!

Hi Monk,
I haven't played Indiana 2008, I only read reviews (see pinball news) but I would be very surprised if it beats the 1993 table for depth of rules and playing fun. I'm still hoping for a JPSalas treatment of the table besides the otherwise fine 2.6redux and Jive mod 2.7 VPinmame versions we have. I played the 1993 version quite often in my college days and it was my favorite table for a long time. It's also in a lot of top 10's around the internet and while Indiana 2008 may not have had the same exposure to the public yet, it seems that it won't break any top 10 soon. The 2008 version probably does have superior sound because of better technology and I would be surprised if the software has the same or more bugs, so in that department it will also beat 1993. On all other aspects I would give 1993 preference, even without playing the 2008.

Did you know that "playing pinball" is called "flipperen" in Dutch? Now you know and may your life be enriched by this arcane knowledge....

It looks like the oldie wins.
I read the pinball news review as well. It seems like the new pin just involves too many repetitive shots. The Raiders multi-ball seems like it could take forever. Same for Crusade, shoot the scoop, rinse, repeat. I did play the old pin down the Jersey Shore years ago. Funny, I don't remember laying on the beach that year, just the inside of the arcade and the Indy theme rolling around my brain.

Sorry to Gary Stern
The fun was in earlier much more.
Back to the roots -Flash- for example. Much funny, easy to run, earn money

Played both, I enjoy the sounds and video of the new one better of course. It was more of a spectators game. They had a few of the new ones lined up in my theater when I saw Crystal Skull. Everyone was getting a kick out of them (Over 6 machines lined up in a row. Was very oldschool
The new machine plays clips of the trilogy on its screen. Lots and lots of voice, and the ability to hit up all three different movies like missions. Disappointingly Crystal Skull isn't represented even though it's on the back glass. Only scenes from the trailer made it in. Very poor considering the lifetime of pinball machines. Maybe it'll be updated. Doubtful though.
Although the original had more depth for the player, the new one is way, WAY more arcade friendly. I'm sure it will see it's fair share of income in comparison. It's just so fun to look at and show off in. Especially with the 8 Ball multi. It's obvioisly designed to get your attention.

For me, that's a definite plus

The newer one is worth a play for sure...it's got some cool features. I particularly like taking out the swordsman from the 'Raiders' movie. My first play on the table resulted in a free game on the second ball.
I will say I like the old one better as well. It has a better lay out and is far better at utilizing the feel of the Indy movies, resulting a more enjoyable play experience.

I couldn't vote because both of them too me are equal. The original Williams 1993 has lots of modes too play so that game is really impressive.
Then theirs the new Stern 2008 game wich has lots of voices and the multi-balls are lots of fun when you get them, especially the arc 8-ball multiball when you get too see the faces melt when they open the arc, i was disappointed that the original one didn't have that part, because that was the best scene in Raiders of the lost arc.
Well anyway i'd also say if you have the money by both of them, if you don't and you want one i'd say the Williams one because you have more game modes on it. Let's just hope we get a S.A.M. emulator someday soon so we can play those new lovely STERN games. Dave P.

We'll always have that animated gif of the missing animation from the Williams table (I can't find it right now), but it would have been great if it'd been included in the final game.
