I went on a quest to turn my Congo machine less noisy.
The reason was to try not to disturb the neighbours so much biggrin.gif

i searched the net and found little info on this. so i went to a few shops of building materials.
i found a special foam that is supposed to reduce the noise. it is used on the inside of the walls of the buildings..
i measured all the areas inside the machine and chopped the foam accordingly to mach small areas and go around cables etc.

it worked!! the machine now does way less noise. i would say it reduced about 30% of the noise.

now the good part. pics:

before:

i started with the coin box area. as you can see, the foam is all chopped to fit several areas. here it has about 2 layers of foam.

the middle area:

then the back part and around the woofer:

after i had a few layers, i putted some more foam on the walls. there isnt much you can do there, because you start to touch the pf parts:

same pic in the end, but with more quality for details:

Not bad! And Bob, in the spring time when the weather is nice, I assume he will have windows open to let some fresh air in, so the "pad the room thing" may not work. biggrin.gif

Heh, I'd probably say "screw the neighbors" as well if I ever got a real machine in my place.

I can't have neighbors because I play the Drums as well as own several pins.
So in a whole other sense, I say SCREW THE NEIGHBORS.

Pinball isn't meant to be quiet. smile.gif Vote yes for "Screw the neighbors" - after all they are always revving their motorcycles, monster trucks, and playing their bass all day at full blast.

I'm no expert, but couldn't you have just soldered in a 100ohm potentiometer as a volume control knob? (or did I just over simply that too much?)

Just be sure to keep the replay knocker plugged in so the neighbors at least know you're still alive over there. Oh, and squirrelmaster has something to say too. He said he got a funny picture in his head of a guy in a straight jacket, in a padded room, with a pinball machine in the corner.
