I have been wanting to compile an FAQ for so long, it's likely going to be AS long before it actually gets done.

Now, if everyone were to post just ONE question/answer for the FAQ, it wouldn't take ANY time at all.

Please, for the love of whatever deitic entity you prefer, help us out!

Thank you!

LOL.

No!

The idea is to post a question AND an answer for inclusion in the FAQ.

Is the FAQ for the site only, or for VP and FP also?

This is turning into an FAQ all on its own.

facepalm.gif

Okay, this is the gig ...

I'm looking for frequently asked questions that are on the board a lot to compile an FAQ. I ask that everyone post a question often asked, along with the answer to assist me in putting one together.

For example ...

Q: Why is the playfield art all white?
A: This is usually due to a lack of Video RAM. To fix this, first, check or uncheck the Hardware Device Rendering box located in the Preferences>Video Options menu of the VP GUI. Close and restart VP. If this does not work, be sure Hardware Device Rendering IS checked, then reduce the Max Texture Dimension option one step at a time, until the problem is resolved. You may want to close VP and restart it between changing these options.

biggrin.gif

It is for site-wide use, which includes FP.

Then the next obvious would get the same answer: Why doesn't VP run smoothly? Why is it choppy?

Here is another easy one:
Q: Will a VP8 table play in VP9?
A: While many VP8 tables may play in VP9, many will not. They are really meant to be played only in the version they were written in.

(Now if I could just figure out the meaning of the little pinballs under my name, I would be set!)

Why does it say,"cannot create off-screen z-surface?"

check or un check your HD render box in the right side of the editor, save the table, close out of vp. Reopen vp load the table in again. Make sure you have both vp and your desktop resolution the same.

do you mean like that?

Q: There is supposed to be music playing in this pin. All I hear are the sound effects. What gives?

A: Download the 'music' folder for that particular pin. Unzip the folder, putting the music files into your music folder.

and so on...

I think he means like that but without the false information....

your desktop resolution and VP do not need to be the same!!!! How do you think i play 4:3 tables on a 16:9 monitor???

You are also wrong about having to save the table and open again after checking/unchecking HD Render. That has not been the case since HD Render option went Global and not table to table.

Just stay out faralos.....

Q: What are Spanned Tables?
A: Spanned tables are another form of cabinet tables. They require winXP to work. The Playfield and Backglass are spanned across two monitors rather then just the PF on one monitor and UVP or B2S running the backglass on the second monitor.

Q: What is UVP and B2S?
A: UVP and B2S are seperate programs that function with VP allowing for animated backglasses without having the table spanned.

If you have a widescreen 16:9 monitor and want to play your VP9 desktop tables without them being stretched, check out This Link

well the general gist of what he wants is there whether it is right or not. that is why I had asked something 'like that'? I must use My older tower set the same no matter what vp9.1.2 is set at. I am not submitting that but since no one else got what he was referring to as a q and a approach well...that is the idea do not use my answers but rather that idea. is that a better way of putting it? i ain't offering that advice, just that theme...I know better...

okay how about this?

Q: Faralos has offered to do some graphic work, is that safe? also he offered to help with installing vp, is THAT safe?
A: Yes to the first and Hell no to the second!

Q: My ball is getting stuck in the table! What am I doing wrong?

A: First off, check the table in the download area and see if it was made for VP8 or VP9, and use the correct executable for it. If you are using the correct version of VP, but you still managed to get a ball stuck, try hitting "B" and telling VP to add a ball to the trough. It will end your current ball, but hey, at least you can still play! Also, inform the author of the table where you got a ball stuck in the support thread - maybe it's a general issue with the table that needs fixing!

Q: The playfield image looks really weird! It looks like it's faded out towards the bottom/looks black! What do I do?

A: Try opening up VP, and go to "Video Options". Set the "Max Texture Dimension" to 1024. That should do the trick.

Q: The game is running really slow! What do I do?

A: Try lowering the Max Texture Dimension, the Alpha Ramp Accuracy, and turning Hardware Device Rendering on or off. Usually, HD Rendering seems to make or break the speed of VP.

Here's a few I just came up with on the spot.

The McD

EDIT: Q: What the? My ball just fell through the flipper! What's that about?

A: This is a bug in VP8. It just happens every once in a while, and as a player, there's pretty much nothing you can do about it.

Q: Why can I only download 5 tables per day?

A: Because bandwidth doesn't grow on trees. Table downloads make up a lot of traffic for this site, and it costs a ton of money as well. So to keep this site afloat, a download limit had to be put in place. You can purchase a subscription here: http://www.vpforums....subs&CODE=index

Q: I tried to play a table, but I got an error! "Can't Load VPinMAME", it says. What should I do?

A: If you're on Vista or Windows 7, you will have to run VP "As Administrator" in order for it to be able to launch VPinMAME.

What about:
Q: I get an error of Startshake, what do I do?
A: Make sure it is a VP9 table you are playing. A startshake error only occurs when you are playing a VP8 table in VP9.

Also I heard from a wise old owl that increasing the flipper return speed a tad decreases the ball through the flipper in VP8.
