What a shame.....perhaps the next version of VP could include a password feature so authors can leave their imprint and nobody could tamper....

JP was cranking them out too! Hopefully he changes his mind down the track - thank you for everything you have done so far!

That is TOTALLY disheartening to see sad.gif Seen and felt this before on other things not related to pinball or games in general so I feel your pain. Maybe place a little info on the bottom of the game like where it came from (this forum) so it ruins it for them next time.... allow their paying customers to get educated on where these games came from and who is the ones that really deserves the respect and credits. Then the end users will understand what a scam these guys really are. Just my 2 cent.

John

Yeah, I thought I saw this somewhere, but couldn't recall where. I think authors can lock their tables so they can't be edited. I wouldn't mind seeing more authors do this so we can have tournament tables.

So what actual steps can authors use so there work isnt modded or used for captial gain?, apart from doing what JP is doing and stop building his tables

I wonder if the VP Devs could put in a feature that displays a pop-up box that says "If you have paid for VP and/or any table created with VP, than you are a sucker. VP and tables created with this program are free. Go to vpforums.org." that cannot be removed.

Might be a little inconvenient, but may stem the tide of these scumbags trying to make a profit off of a free program.

Locking tables doesn't keep lowlifes from stealing the tables and selling them as part of a CD. I locked my tables for a couple of years back in 2002 or so, and they still ended up on rip-off CDs. That was a minor factor in my leaving for several years. I even stated on the background that VP and all the tables were free to download, with the url of Pinball Nirvava. The only thing is that the unknowing suckers had already bought and paid for their CDs. I guess I'll be making a lot fewer tables too.

I totally understand where you are comming from jp. It is a sad thought that we would need to lock our freely given work to keep some asshole from trying to turn a buck on our efforts.

Isn't it great how jerks end up ruining everything?

Really lame that many of the great table creators here are being taken advantage of with this product.

Yeah i guess this is just something we have to accept that will and does happen, people will try and profit from others good will and hard work!! The question JP has to ask himself is:

1. Does he enjoy making these tables, if so why stop a hobby you enjoy
2. Should the actions of the few stop the joy of the many
3. Whats stopping these scum from using his tables that are already released
4. Maybe still make them but dont mass release them

I really do hope this is just frustration talking on JP's part and maybe after a while will decided to carry on......and to be fair i think im not the only one who would gladly pay a little for these tables that all these top authors recreate if they werent free!!!

Just hope this doesnt happen anymore as if it does and every author decides to stick a finger up at these idiots who profit from their hard work then no tables will get built ever again, and none of us want that!!

... and with internet came mass piracy. look at the record companies, movie producers, etc...

nowadays is so easy to get others work and do want you want with it. it is a shame!!

even if jp would charge for the releases, there would be massive illegal downloads available in the net.

your letting these assholes win than peeps do this to my stuff all the time in the sims but i don't let it bother me i keep on going and determined not to let them win. the best thing you can do is not spread their site around like whats being done now. the less people know about them the better the more people talk about them and forum threads start up the more your advertising for them.
