Strange World FS B2S

Version: 1.0.5
Category: VP 9.x B2S Cabinet Tables (B2S)

Author(s): JPSalas, Rosve

Description:
Gottlieb 1978. With an active backglass.
This is my VP911 FS conversion of the JPSalas Table.

Please read the "How to install" document to get the active backglass process installed correctly.

The script and physics are modified to be closer to the real machine.

------------------------------------------------

Update: the Match number was not showing correctly. Fixed.

----------------------------------------------------
Update 1.0.2
- Added the possibility to define witch screen the backglass is displaying on.
------------------------------------------------------
Update 1.0.3
- Fixed a bug in the screen configuration for the backglass
- When the backglass is started it automatically sets the focus to the Visual Pinball Player process. This is needed if you want to launch the backglass from the table script.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Update 1.0.4
- Now with the new B2S (version 2) backglass solution.
----------------------------------------------------------
Update 1.0.5
-The size and position of the backglass can be set in the ScreenRes file. No change to the table.

Uploaded again, this time with the correct backglass.

Just saw that there was a bug in the original code for generating the Match number. I have fixed that and uploaded an updated table.

THANK YOU ROSVE! Just beautiful!!!!!!!

(I still see a hair of stutter. Maybe it is my quad core 2.4ghz. Maybe I need something more than 2.4GHZ, considering that VP only runs from one core.)

It feels pretty good watching this video Rawd. Especially the groovy backglass in full working glory. When I spent all those hours doing the playfield and plastics for this, I never imagined it would look so sweet once J.P. took over the build. I know I will likely never do the cab thing, but it's nice to see how others can max their enjoyment of these funky graphics.

Nice artwork! Thanks! JP as well!

Finally playing an EM table on my cabinet the way it was meant to be played.

Very nice indeed thankyou. However Im seeing a lot of very noticable tearing on the flippers compared to other tables, they seem to activate very quickly from fully lowered to fully raised.

My goal was to make the table play as accurately as possible compared to the real machine.
The flippers on real pins activates almost instantly, they are controlled by solenoids so it is pretty much on or off and nothing in between.
On many tables the flippers are too slow in my opinion.

I haven't managed to set this one up yet (saving it for the weekend rolleyes.gif ), but from Rawd's video it looks so good in the Layback view combined with Rosve backglass - thanks Rosve!

Rawd - Did you try tampering with the affinity settings, to see if that helps the stutter?

I ran this table tonight with the backglass. On first run it was stuttery so I looked at the task monitor and VP was running on CPU1 and the backglass EXE on CPU3 (all other window processes are forced to CPU0 with praffinity). This seemed odd as normally you would think that a dedicated CPU for each program would be ideal. After experimenting a bit I forced both programs to the same core 1 (all other windows proceses are forced to core 0). And guess what... silky smooth play. The FPS is showing 750, the highest I have had. I switched around a few times and this is consistent behaviour. No idea why this is - maybe it is more effeciient to let two program communicating to each other to be on the same core.

Anyway this table with the backglass is truely fantastic. A great EM table with great physics, a weighty ball and superb looking backglass. Thanks again Rosve for the backglass creation - I looked forward to more EM creations with your program.

Glad that you like it. I played around alot with the physics parameters to make it feel right.

I got an error (variable undefined i think?) at line 667:
CODE
Coins=Coins+1

I presume that was when I was about to get a free game.

Is that supposed to be
CODE
Credits=Credits+1

since that's the variable name used in the AddCredit sub?

Ahh, the NewScore routine is my scoring code that runs in parallel with the original code in this table.
The lines 666-669 must be commented out, It is the replay code for the table I copied this routine from.

I love these older tables so thanks! I do have a question:

1) I have a 3 display cabinet and the backglass displays on my DMD monitor instead of my backglass monitor. How would I change this?

Again, thanks so much for an older table smile.gif.

Does anyone have a HyperPin table image for this machine?

Many thanks for releasing this one with the backglass monitor configurable - my favourite VP EM!

Jeff - this version will fix your problem with the monitor.

Hi Jeff, am also having this problem with the backglass displaying on my DMD monitor. Did you figure out a way to change the display number of the backglass?

Thanks.

Good news TheWool. In this release rosve allows you to define the monitor number to display the backglass on. Add a line to the end of your ScreenRes.txt file of the monitor number you want the backglass on. Good luck!

Add a fifth line with the display number in the ScreenRes.txt.

From the Install document.
- Enter the resolution of your screens into the ScreenRes.txt in the following format:
X-resolution of the Playfield display. (must be the same as in VP/Preferences/Video Options)
Y-resolution of the Playfield display. (must be the same as in VP/Preferences/Video Options)
X-resolution of the backglass display.
Y-resolution of the backglass display.
Display number (1 - 3). The screen that you want the backglass to be displayed on.
