What have I done!

I had an almost perfect 2-screen setup under XP SP3 with Playfield and Backglass, Hyperpin, VP, and Future Pinball all running great. Only issue I had was some stuttering with UVP, so then I tried to add to my GTX 260 a PCI 5500 for the DMD. Two cards wouldn't work together so I simply removed the 5500, uninstalled drivers last night.

Today if I run VP, the table displays for two seconds and then VPinball.exe dies with no error at all. Future Pinball does the same, editor loads, press play, tables displays for 2 seconds and dies. Run Hyperpin, can cycle through tables for about 5 seconds, and the exe dies.

I have completely removed the nVidia 5500 and GTX 260 driver, removed nView profiles, searched for stray NV dll driver files.l I have then installed various versions of the driver including 182.50 but same problem. I have reverted to a system restore point from week ago, but same problem. The PC is clean - have avast, etc. and no other software.

I tried to run Slamit Bigscore pinball and that is fine.

Therefore there must be something that VP uses and FP uses in common that only makes them die 2 seconds after a table is displayed. Maybe there are fragments left over from the 5500 driver? Any ideas what to try next?

Cheers

Hey - thanks Wildman. I was just about ready to give up and install XP tomorrow (it is midnight here), when I realised what both FP and VP have in common on my PC. They both use my PinWizard controller. I unplugged it and now the exes don't crash. I went to the control panel, added back the PinWizard controller and all is well again. I have no idea why but at least it works now. SIX hours I have been missing with this!

Six hours to learn something new + 2 minutes to type & upload this post, that might be very useful for other people in the future. ! wink.gif: dblthumb.gif
