So, since I'm hoping that my laptop will come back in a few days (them bastards had it long enough) I'm starting to get back into MAME, and I gave up on using it on this laptop of my dad's. I just keep getting errors and all that jazz, so I switched to NeoRAGEX, a NeoGeo emulator (I'd say this goes here, NeoGeo falls into MAME) and got myself my favorite game, SNK vs. Capcom: Chaos. Plugged my gamepad back in the slot and started getting back into playing. To my surprise, I found Goenitz to be one of the selectable characters (AFAIK he's a boss, and should have been unlockable using a complicated code, but who am I to complain) and got right to it. Fought one, two battles and remembered why NeoGeo fighters are so much fun: Simple formula, great execution.

So why not make a NeoGeo topic here? Discuss your experiences with these games, your favorites etc.

I think that the NeoRAGEX emulator was emulating neo-geo games before MAME was. So back in its day if you wanted to run neo-geo games you had to use the NeoRAGEX emulator.

But when neo-geo code was put into MAME thats when things changed.

MAME killed off the NeoRAGEX emulator. I think that emulator is pretty much dead because MAME now emulates King of fighters 2004 and the NeoRAGEX hasn't been updated sense it was supporting king of fighters 2001.

I like MAME because it is still active and most games run better and play better in MAME . So the difference would be that MAME runs games from hundreds of different video game companys including neo-geo versus NeoRAGEX only runs neo-geo. And MAME also has a user freindly GUI its easy to use. NeoRAGEX can be hard to setup and use.

And I can also play my favorite SHUMPS series of all time. Gradius, Gradius II, Gradius III, Gradius IV, Salamander, Life Force, and Salamander 2.

You can't play those in the NeoRAGEX emulator.

NeoRageX allows you to play neogeo games on a lot less powerful hardware. Even a basic pentium 75 system with that will run king of fighters '99. Also, it should be able to run a lot of unlisted games. I have Garou Mark of the Wolves and a few others for it. It doesn't seem to like my vista64 setup though. Sure, use MAME for everything else, but the joystick controller setup, the menu operation, and simple speed of NeoRageX are benefits enough for me.
