I also Googled "Marbles" and found some interesting ones.(I have no Photoshop skills and only use the Paint program built into Windows, so I improvise and look for Pics already made that I think I can use.)

Tried to find a Ball Bearing but had no luck.

I have also seen some cool "Beach Balls" that maybe could be used..

What do you think?

in VP10 its very easy to use whatever ball you want....

here you can see in my Rat Fink table I'm using a purslane eyeball

I was playing with Funhouse VPX & trying to get a brighter ball. There are 3 ball images listed in Image Manager but no matter which one is selected in Properties > Ball image, the ball looks the same. I imported a brighter image & renamed it "ball_HDR" to replace the existing "ball_HDR" image as someone suggested & that made a difference. But it did still did not matter what I selected for the Ball Image, including "none".

Is there some reason that the Ball Image makes no difference?

Brer Frog, you have to delete old "ball_HDR" image or you have to go to script, find "ball_HDR" line and change all "ball_HDR" on "your ball name"

cBall1.Image = "ball_HDR"
cBall1.FrontDecal = "Scratches"
cBall2.Image = "ball_HDR"
cBall2.FrontDecal = "Scratches"
cBall3.Image = "ball_HDR"
cBall3.FrontDecal = "Scratches"

It should work now.

As mentioned I did replace the old "ball_HDR" image with a new one & it did work.

But in hauntfreaks example he says it's easy to use whatever ball you want & it looks like he just selects the Ball Image. I apologize if I missed something but I didn't see anything in this thread mentioning "ball_HDR", other than the above posting. This makes me wonder why his system works differently than mine.

Changing my Ball Image does not seem to do anything. I even changed it to "aluminum" or a red light & it did not seem to change anything. What does selecting an image in Ball Image do?

no matter, what's the name of your desired ball image:

imort it with the image manager

choose it in ball image (in the table options)

I think chokeee's example was, if the image is hard coded in the script (maybe that's the case in Fun House VPX).

I did import an image using Image Manager, But choosing it in Ball Image makes no difference. It makes no difference what I select in Ball Image.

There's a discussion in the Funhouse thread about people wanting a brighter ball. I jumped in & explained my situation. It appears "The editor settings gets overwritten when the options are set at table startup."

http://www.vpforums....e=4#entry374234

I guess it's hard coded. Unfortunately that defeats the purpose of having an editor setting, which is causing my confusion.

In order for him to offer options in the script to change to different balls and different types of balls you have to script it in, which unfortunately has the side effect of making the editor setting not do anything.  Most tables are not setup like this, and you found the work around for it, replace an image they use with one you want.  Not really any more work, actually less, as all you have to do is open image manager select the one you want to replace and say "Reimport From"  find your file and that's it your done, well probably save as well, but you need to do that in either case.

Brer Frog, make sure that you don have 2 "ball_HDR" images in the image editor. If there are 2, you have to delete the one you dont want.

If BallMod = 1 Then
cBall1.Image = "Chrome_Ball_29"
cBall1.FrontDecal = "FunhouseBall1"
cBall2.Image = "Chrome_Ball_29"
cBall2.FrontDecal = "FunhouseBall2"
cBall3.Image = "Chrome_Ball_29"
cBall3.FrontDecal = "FunhouseBall3"
Else
cBall1.Image = "ball_HDR"
cBall1.FrontDecal = "Scratches"
cBall2.Image = "ball_HDR"
cBall2.FrontDecal = "Scratches"
cBall3.Image = "ball_HDR"
cBall3.FrontDecal = "Scratches"
End If

"ball_HDR" is your ball image. So to change the ball image you have to write there your pinball image name. Dont change it in the ball option, it wont work because it is hard coded.

chokeee - I have only 1 "ball_HDR" image.

I looked in the script a few hours ago & saw exactly what you posted.

Another question -

The original "ball_HDR" image was 256x256. However the new one I used was 128x128 and after Importing into Image Manager it shows up as “0x8192”. Why did it change & why did it still work? Was I supposed to re-scale it to 256x256?

No need to upload your Funhouse as I don't have a problem. I'm just trying to learn how some of this stuff works.

Even changing the ball image, many tables the ball is still to dark.  I love the ball in Robowar, dark playfield, dark lighting, but the ball is still very easy to see.   Is there any simple way to get this bright ball effect on other tables when they lighting is done?

this is still the ball and decal I use on most tables... much brighter than most without it looking washed out...

Basically looks like if the environment lighting under the light tab is really high , at least above 20 you get a bright ball, most of the times that will make the table super bright, sometimes you can drop the day/night slider to make it look better.  Bulb intensity helps sometimes on certain tables.

I can understand why some people prefer a darker ball for a dark table for realism, but its so much easier to play when the ball is visible.   Would be nice if one day you can just adjust ball brightness separate from the table.

hey fellas by any chance does anybody have a good gold ball they are using? I imported a gold ball image and renamed it in the image editor to the ball_hdr and deleted the old image in image manger and saved and reloaded the table. but the ball still came out chrome. So I went into the video editor with the same image and told it to overwrite the ball image. And it over wrote the chrome ball, only problem is it looks like a gold marble with black in it. It looks alright but I was looking for something a little bit more gold metalish. I'm color blind and 100% blind in my left eye on top of it.  so it gets hard for me to track the chrome ball on some of these tables.

the ball_hdr is not just an image... its an environment map.... you need to just import the ball you like and pick it in the ball menu.... (this is in the vpx editor)
make sure the pic of the gold ball is crop as a square around the ball image
