Do you know if Black Hole is using a ROM? It didn't in the original Gottlieb collection, but it would be cool if did now. That's the one I think I'm most looking forward to playing.

I think I remember them saying on Facebook that all the tables use ROMs now.

Is anyone running this beta on iOS, maybe an Ipad 1?

What game are you running and how does it perform compared to rom emulation and VP in general?

I wasn't one of the chosen ones :0(

Yes, I'm running the iOS beta on an iPad 2 and it's very nice. Farsight is using the original ROMs, so I'd say it performs just as nice as VP, except with more bells and whistles (camera options, leaderboards, very detailed table instructions, etc.)

There are four machines so far:

Tales of The Arabian Nights
Theatre of Magic
Ripley's Believe it Or Not
Black Hole

Yep Jeffy777 I am in the iPad2 beta as well. I saw your name on the list when we got the email. So my question is Who are the other 4 people!!!!

I am loving it and have been playing TOTAN and Black Hole like crazy. The one thing I can say is it really makes me wish someone would make a pinball style icade for it. It would be awesome. I sometimes find myself keeping one of my thumbs further away from the screen than the other one and it affects my timing. Its a great product and ill be buying tables like crazy when it comes out.

If i remember right Steve ellenoff of the pinmame team worked with them on thwarting Williams collection so i would imagine they are using the roms now

if they would use the ROMs it would certainly help. Some of the non-rom programming kills some of the tables for me. Like the extra long wait after a ball lock on Space Shuttle 3DS etc.
If you have a widescreen 16:9 monitor and want to play your VP9 desktop tables without them being stretched, check out This Link

It looks like the only tables being ROM emulated are those using a DMD, as was the case in Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. Here a quote from The Pinball Arcade staff on the 7th of January indicating that there will be non-ROM emulated tables:

QUOTE
Quick Nintendo update: We have dev equipment for the Wii-U and fully anticipate being ready for the launch of its eStore. The 3DS version currently needs to be optimized more to support ROM emulation at a smooth enough frame rate to be acceptable (in our opinion). We do not want to limit it to non-ROM emulated tables only. We will turn our tech guys loose on it once we get past the mobile launch.

Without an engine overhaul I won't be touching this game. Nowhere near as good as what Future Pinball is producing for free.

I find the physics to be better in Farsight's game (ipad2 beta). They've been improved quite a bit since PHOF: the Williams Collection.

Plus you can't play Future Pinball on-the-go via an iPad/iPhone/Android.

I was able to play the beta version an an iPod touch and although it is hard to judge the physics on such a small device the physics to me felt absolutely spot on. Nice weighty ball, bouncy rubbers, etc. I really think they have nailed it and it is by far the best pinball I have played on an iPod touch. I agree the Future Pinball tables are visually stunning and this maybe what you are referring to - FP may have the edge in this department, but I have to say the Farsight game captures the real pinball feel and I would recommend anyone to at least give one table a go.

Of the 4 tables I tried, I know I will be buying every table they release on the both the iOs and PC platforms.

I don't recall being able to install Future Pinball on an ipad/iphone/android device... when was that patch implemented?

btw - I read somewhere that Farsight studios is emulating the physics from actual pinball tables. One example they gave is they are dropping a ball on the table, allowing it to roll down and hit a surface and watching where & how far it bounces and then emulating that in the pinball application.

From what I've seen not only are the graphics and lighting sub-par but the physics are also bad, I don't know what planet most of you are from but you need to take a trip to Earth once in a while and see how a pinball simulation SHOULD look and play.....Future Pinball is still the best pinball game out there. And who cares about playing on your iPhone...or whetever....jeez, can't you go without playing pinball for 5 mins!!? You have to carry it around with you!!?

In one of the videos I saw they showed how they'll watch how the ball rolls down a particular ramp on the real machine, and then adjust the gravity in the editor just on that ramp so the ball speeds up like it does in real life. Cool stuff, and I'm sure they'll keep getting better and better at it as they make new tables... just like VP & FP authors.

This will be interesting to see...

I'll be waiting for the 360 and possibly the PS3 versions. I'll likely be supporting one or both of them.

Uhhhh... does this guy just butt into every thread to tell us how much better FP is than whatever is being talked about? Jeez, some people!
I read the latest Facebook post that says that us Xbox/PS3ers are gonna have to wait 'til late March... all you lucky Apple/Android users get to start having fun in February! Think I'll pass on getting it for my Ipod Touch... just seems too small a screen to really enjoy it... but it's great that there's (finally!) gonna be actual high-quality arcade pinball for these devices!
